Charlie Evans of Off Campus Opens Up About the Hunter Davenport Plot Twist

Off Campus wrapped up its debut season with a significant twist, and now the actor involved is sharing insights regarding the notable changes from the source material.

In season 1, which started airing in May, Allie (Mika Abdalla) developed a connection with a mysterious figure she ended up spending time with, all while casually dating Dean (Stephen Kalyn).

The season finale featured Dean clashing with the mystery man—initially known as Carter—who was revealed to be Hunter Davenport (Charlie Evans). However, no additional details were provided. There seemed to be an implication that Dean’s conflicts may have ties to his sister, Summer, who had a past relationship with Hunter.

“I auditioned for Carter St. James V, and I was aware he came from wealth,” Evans shared with Swooon regarding his understanding of the role before landing it. “I had some general information, like he played for a rival team, but I only discovered his actual identity after getting cast.”

Readers of Elle Kennedy‘s novel series may recognize the character as Dean’s teammate in The Score, with a positive relationship between them. Hunter later became the protagonist of his own story in The Play, while Summer was a key figure in The Chase.

“What I can share is that [creator] Louisa [Levy] has mapped out an exciting season 2 that focuses intensely on Dean,” Evans teased. “In this upcoming season, it’ll explore Dean’s realm, background, and everyone—close and distant—to him, and I can’t wait for the audience to experience that narrative.”

Evans didn’t rule out the possibility of interacting with Summer and delving into her history with Hunter.

“I think anything is on the table. The way we’re crafting this show, Louisa has skillfully designed these characters to be adaptable and responsive to their surroundings,” he noted. “There are many meaningful story developments that translate beautifully on-screen, and she plans to keep that momentum going.”

He continued, “She has a clear vision for where she wants this story to go, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of that because it feels very well-rounded. I’ve been involved in those discussions and seen the boards, looked at the books, and it’s quite impressive.”

According to Evans, it was always intended to shake things up with Hunter.

“This was always in the cards for Season 2. We understood the direction right from the start, and that was our approach,” he explained. “We aimed for a dramatic climax, wanting everyone in one place. Louisa meticulously plans this stuff well ahead of time—she’s got the next five books mapped out, ready to unfold.”

Evans shared his enthusiasm for the show’s future trajectory, stating, “All of that drama with Allie, that sense of vulnerability and trauma, as there’s a depth to his sad history that needs to come to the surface.”

He concluded: “Watching him shed his false facades and reach a place of authenticity, breaking down those barriers built from family expectations and societal pressures—finding his true self.”

Off Campus is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
