Off Campus’ Mika Abdalla Hints at More Book Adaptations in Season 2
Off Campus star Mika Abdalla hinted at the differences in season 2 compared to Elle Kennedy‘s The Score.
“[It’s the] same as season 1, which didn’t exactly follow the books,” Abdalla, 26, mentioned on the Tuesday, June 30, episode of the “Hey Jonas!” podcast. “There’s some exciting new elements and fun additions that we’re including.”
Rooted in the Off-Campus book series by Kennedy, 44, the popular Prime Video series revolves around an elite ice hockey team and the women in their lives. Season 1, which debuted in May, focused on the romance between Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli).
Following the order of Kennedy’s books, Logan’s (Antonio Cipriano) story was anticipated next, followed by Dean’s (Stephen Kalyn) before Tucker’s (Jalen Thomas Brooks) turn. However, it was announced that Dean and Allie (Abdalla) would take the lead in a twist for season 2.
“Even though we tease Dean and Allie earlier than expected, you will still find yourself wanting more,” Abdalla exclusively told Us Weekly in May. “That’s something I’m really excited about. You will just want to see more.”
According to Abdalla, the show aims to “stay true to a lot” of Allie and Dean’s love story.
“Allie and Hannah’s storylines are deeply interconnected, so it made sense to explore that more this season,” she explained regarding the focus on Allie and Dean throughout season 1. “All the books build off each other and share connections. It wouldn’t have been right to omit certain elements from the other books this season.”
Prior to Prime Video revealing the upcoming leads, Bright, 19, and Cameli, 28, shared their thoughts on returning for future seasons.
“I completely understand your concerns,” Cameli told Us Weekly about each season spotlighting a different fictional couple. “We will be here for the journey the entire time.”
Bright confirmed that they plan to be “sticking” around, with Cameli adding, “We can’t wait to see what season 2 has in store for [us].”
The pair expressed their strong offscreen friendship.
“Working on a project like this would be unbearable if you didn’t get along with your co-star,” Cameli reflected. “We are so fortunate. Ella and I are really, really dear friends. We mesh perfectly and spend a great amount of time together on set.”
Bright expressed similar gratitude for having Cameli as her on-screen partner.
“Honestly, we have a blast. It’s amazing to embark on this journey with everyone who genuinely cares about the show and its characters,” she told Us. “Everyone is here for the same reason, which eases the pressure since you share it with such talented individuals.”
Off Campus is currently streaming on Prime Video.
