Is Sullivan’s Crossing Coming Back for Season 5 After Cast Departures?

Sullivan’s Crossing has experienced several unexpected cast alterations, so will the popular series return for a fifth season?

Adapted from a book series by Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing tells the story of neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan) as she makes her way back to her hometown in rural Nova Scotia. She re-establishes her connections with her estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson), newcomer Cal (Chad Michael Murray), and various members of the community.

Sullivan’s Crossing has been renewed for a fifth season, slated to premiere in 2027 on CTV. Following its Canadian airing, the hit show is expected to release episodes on The CW and then Netflix, likely in the summer after its cable run concludes.

Before season 4 debuted, Us Weekly reported in March 2026 that Scott Patterson would not be returning to his role.

Sullivan’s Crossing has secured a renewal for season 5, but not all cast members will be back. The show, based on Robyn Carr’s book series, revolves around neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan) as she returns to her rural Nova Scotia roots to mend her relationship with her estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson). This brief homecoming transforms Maggie’s life in unexpected ways.

“Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded with Sully departing for Ireland, marking a new chapter in his journey. Season 4 resumes the day after, with Sully still abroad,” Roth shared with Us. “Although he is not physically present this season, the character remains crucial to the narrative, with potential for future involvement if it fits within the creative direction.”

Patterson hinted at the reasons behind his unexpected departure, posting on Instagram, “The creative differences had become unmanageable, and I sadly recognized that the show was no longer compatible with my vision.”

He later clarified that leaving Sullivan’s Crossing was not his original intention.

“It’s unfortunate that it seems I was moved on from when, in reality, it’s the opposite. Those who have openly discussed this are aware of the true situation and chose to misrepresent it,” he added. “I hadn’t planned to make a statement, but the fans of both the books and the show deserve to know the truth, as I have always respected those who support this industry by following and cherishing the characters we are privileged to portray.”

Sullivan’s Crossing is undergoing significant changes with Scott Patterson’s character, Sully, being written out. What does this surprising exit indicate about the show’s future? Based on Robyn Carr’s book series, Sullivan’s Crossing focuses on neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan) as she returns home to reconnect with her roots.

Kohan, for her part, discussed the impact of Patterson’s departure on the show.

“It’s fascinating. Different dynamics will always emerge,” she exclusively told Us. “One positive outcome of Sully’s absence is the introduction of several wonderful new characters.”

Kohan found it “really enjoyable” to explore new relationships on the series.

“What I truly appreciated was being able to do flashbacks and witness the younger version of Maggie,” she added. “Seeing her fully embrace the present moment has been a great experience.”
