Jennifer Lopez Marks 57th Birthday with an Inspiring Message
Jennifer Lopez is marking her 57th birthday with a touch of wisdom.
On Instagram this past Friday, July 24, the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer celebrated her special day by sharing a video of herself cruising in a car with the windows down, enjoying the sunlight and the wind dancing through her hair.
JLo chose to accompany her post with a reading from Theodore Roosevelt’s memorable 1910 speech, “The Man in the Arena.”
“It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better,” the speech opens.
The iconic words of the late president go on to honor “the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again.”
Lopez captioned her Instagram post succinctly, stating, “When you keep going it just keeps getting better ✨🥳.”
Previously, Lopez has openly discussed the discourse around aging in the spotlight.
In an interview with Elle in 2020, prior to the launch of her JLo Beauty collection, Lopez expressed that age should not be mentioned when complimenting someone’s appearance.
“You never want to hear you look amazing for 50. People want to hear you look amazing, regardless of age. For me and my brand, that’s crucial,” she noted at the time. “We aim for people to say, wow, you look stunning, without age being a factor.”
Lopez further added, “[When people say] ‘Oh my God, she’s 50,’ it’s like, does it matter? You want to be your best self, no matter what.”
In December 2024, she also reacted to a reporter’s quip about her age “approaching.”
“Honestly, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena. It’s hard to fathom that in 30 years, we’ll be doing this retrospective and you’ll be 60 by then,” a reporter remarked in a video captured by TMZ at that time.
“It’s amusing that you think I’m getting up there,” Lopez responded, while the journalist clarified his comment was meant as a “joke.” Unfazed, Lopez chose to express her gratitude to the audience.
“I just want to say thank you, everyone. We’ve been on this journey together for a long time. It’s been quite a ride, and you’ve been with me through it all,” Lopez expressed. “Today, while singing some new songs, I revisited ‘If You Had My Love,’ my debut song from 1999. Reflecting on this journey is truly remarkable.”
She concluded, “I genuinely believe the best is yet to come. I truly feel that my creativity and my artistic identity — as you mentioned, this marks another level in understanding who I am as both a person and an artist.”
