Caroline Arapoglou from Outer Banks Discusses Finale Deaths and Upcoming Spinoff
Outer Banks faced a challenging task in concluding the series, delivering a finale filled with unexpected moments, character deaths, and surprising twists.
“The entire finale is essentially a love letter to all who have joined us on this journey over the past five seasons,” Caroline Arapoglou shared exclusively with Us. “It’s a show that aims for the Pogues to achieve a happy ending — and I believe this was the perfect way to conclude it.”
Arapoglou, 35, praised the popular Netflix series, whose final season is currently available for streaming, for managing to capture “the season 1 vibes” despite the “bittersweet” experience on set.
In the finale, viewers witnessed the marriage of Sarah (Madelyn Cline) and John B. (Chase Stokes), which was celebrated by the entire community following the couple’s first child. Meanwhile, a final treasure hunt allowed the Pogues to reclaim their gold, while many of their adversaries met their end.
Arapoglou’s character played a crucial role throughout the final season.
“I’ve always believed that, as the actor, I’ve consistently portrayed that Rose genuinely loved Ward [Charles Esten] and truly cares for the kids,” she explained. “Though her methods may seem morally questionable, at her core, she sincerely cares about the family. She is genuinely ride or die for the Camerons, and it was nice to show a softer aspect of her this season.”
Arapoglou, who has portrayed Rose since season 1, pushed her boundaries more than ever as her character sought to carve out a future for herself. In a shocking moment of the season, Rose faced a near-death experience when Groff (J. Anthony Crane) choked her too hard.
“I was pregnant during the whole season, and at the time we filmed that scene, I hadn’t disclosed it to anyone yet. It was still early, and upon receiving that scene, I knew it would involve a lot of stunts and thought, ‘OK, I need to let them know what’s happening,’” she recalled to Us. “Thankfully, my incredible stunt double handled most of the heavy work for me.”
Reflecting on Rose’s conclusion, Arapoglou expressed her enthusiasm for potential future developments.
“I felt really grateful that she was somewhat welcomed back into the fold,” she shared. “It was heartening to see that, in the end, Rose wanted to be part of that family, and it seemed like she got her wish to some extent.”
She continued: “[After this] Rose definitely needs some time to herself. I think she could use a break and perhaps return to dating in a few years. Though she was deeply involved in the gold scheming, she ultimately found a place within the Cameron family. I hope she holds onto that and gets to stick around.”
Arapoglou held high aspirations for every character remaining in the series finale. When asked about the possibility of a continuation in the future, she said:
“Our writers are incredibly talented at what they do,” she teased to Us. “They have a multitude of ideas. If they were to propose a spinoff, I would undoubtedly take that call.”
