TV Shows Canceled Multiple Times: From S.W.A.T. to 7th Heaven
The S.W.A.T. series on CBS is yet another example of a show experiencing multiple cancellations before a final decision was made.
While many CBS programs have enjoyed significant success, S.W.A.T. faced numerous challenges. Inspired by the 1975 television series and the 2003 movie of the same name, S.W.A.T. focused on the Los Angeles Police Department. Debuting in 2017, the action-packed drama featuring Shemar Moore ran for six seasons before being slated for a seventh and concluding season.
Eventually, CBS retracted their initial decision, allowing S.W.A.T. to continue for an eighth season. However, the joy was short-lived, as the network announced a second cancellation in March 2025.
In response, Moore expressed his feelings about the cancellation in an Instagram video addressed to CBS, stating, “I don’t think you’re making the right choice. Hey Netflix, how you doing? Just a reminder that once upon a time, it only took us about two weeks to go from No. 15 … to No. 1. We managed to stay in your top 10 or top 15 for about six months, nine months, maybe even a year. So Netflix, if you’re looking for a show that’s already capturing viewers’ attention, we’d love to join you.”
He went on to say: “NBC, Fox, ABC, you want to join in? You’re invited to the party. Choose your favorite dining spot, and I’ll pick up the tab. Believe me, everyone here at S.W.A.T. is still eager to chase down bad guys and engage in thrilling helicopter, motorcycle, and car pursuits. We’re not finished yet.”
S.W.A.T. is among numerous shows that have found themselves in a state of uncertainty over the years. Other series like Nashville, Baywatch, 7th Heaven, and more faced cancellation by their networks, only to be revived and then faced with cancellation again.
