Is Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaid’s Tale Starring in The Testaments Spin-off?
Hulu has extended the universe of The Handmaid’s Tale with the spinoff The Testaments — but did Elisabeth Moss return as June?
Initially asked about her potential return to Gilead during a March episode of The View, Moss responded, “I couldn’t tell you if I was! It’s been really cool. [Producing the show] has allowed me to stay connected to the world, which I was very happy about.”
The actress also commended Chase Infiniti, who portrays her onscreen daughter.
“Being part of anything Chase is involved in is so exciting and such an honor. It’s cool,” Moss stated, labeling The Testaments as a series “for fans of the original show and Handmaid’s, but also for those who haven’t seen Handmaid’s. No offense meant, it’s just a bit different.”
Ultimately, Moss did make a brief appearance in several episodes when the show premiered a month later.
Set in a dystopian future where low fertility rates have drastic consequences, Hulu’s adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale aired from 2017 to 2025, drawing from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name.
The Testaments, set to debut on April 8, takes place three to four years later. The narrative, led by Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, plunges viewers back into the dystopian landscape. Characters Agnes and Daisy, disguised as “Pearl Girls,” attempt to access Canada to smuggle critical information about Gilead’s regime, while Aunt Lydia serves as an undercover source within Gilead.
Alongside Infiniti and Dowd, The Testaments features stars like Eva Foote, Rowan Blanchard, Kira Guloien, Amy Seimetz, and Brad Alexander. The cast also includes Birva Pandya, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Mattea Conforti, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Mabel Li, and Isolde Ardies.
Show creator Bruce Miller previously shared insights into how closely the series would align with Atwood’s book The Testaments, suggesting that “it’s not going to track precisely” with the novel.
“Margaret crafts these wonderfully specific characters,” he told TVLine in 2022. “We had to diverge from that in Handmaid’s, and we will do so again in Testaments. Testaments will certainly be a sequel to the series.”
More recently, Infiniti revealed that she didn’t meet Moss until shortly before wrapping up filming The Testaments.
“I actually didn’t get to meet Elisabeth Moss until the end [of filming],” Infiniti shared with People in January.
She recalled Moss’s encouraging words, adding, “But as soon as I met her, she wrapped me in a big hug and said, ‘You got this. You got this. OK? You got it.’”
The Testaments is set to premiere on Hulu on April 8.
