Rob Reiner Posthumously Awarded Emmy 8 Months After Passing
One of Rob Reiner’s final performances before his passing is being honored among television’s brightest stars.
At the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys held on Sunday, September 5, Reiner received a posthumous nomination for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Albert Schnur in season 4 of FX’s The Bear.
The beloved actor won the award, with presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepting it on his behalf while the audience honored him with a standing ovation. “We all wish he was here,” remarked McLendon-Covey, 56.
Other nominees in the category were Michael J. Fox for Shrinking, Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, and Connor Storrie for hosting Saturday Night Live.
In season 4 of The Bear, Reiner’s character, Albert Schnur, was a restaurant franchiser who guided Ebraheim (played by Edwin Lee Gibson) on how to grow The Original Beef sandwich walk-up window. The episodes debuted in June 2025.
Tragically, Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered deceased in their Brentwood, California home on December 14, 2025.
Their son Nick Reiner was arrested later and charged in connection with their murders; he remains incarcerated at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown Los Angeles.

Nick, 32, has battled addiction and mental health challenges over the years and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The couple’s other two children, Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, are grieving the loss of their parents while striving to move forward.
“It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time, and it also feels like eight minutes,” Jake shared with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles in an interview aired August 27 on Good Morning America. “Every moment I wake up, I am reminded of my reality.”
In a Substack essay released in April, Jake articulated his emotions while coping with the death of both parents.
“Nothing can truly prepare you for the pain of losing both parents suddenly at the same time. It’s beyond comprehension,” Jake reflected at that time. “I still wake up every day having to convince myself that ‘No, it’s not a dream. This is genuinely my living nightmare.’ I can’t begin to fathom what my parents went through, but I often think about how frightened they must have felt.”
He continued, “They were the last people who deserved this fate. They deserved love, respect, and, most importantly, appreciation for all they contributed to us and to the world.”
The 2026 Primetime Emmys will be broadcast on NBC on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET.
