No extravagant chef’s tasting menu here. No high-maintenance dish preparation. Just fish, potatoes, and greens. She also suggested a delightful addition for a touch of acidity: “Also, if there could be some roasted tomatoes in there, I think it’s really delicious.”

Longtime fans will recall Hathaway’s food insights have a history of going viral. In March 2022, she appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and casually introduced her unique way to eat cupcakes — a revelation that truly took the internet by storm.

“I didn’t know this was unusual until I was at my friend Steph’s 40th birthday that got canceled due to omicron, so we had cupcakes instead,” Hathaway explained.

“I took my cupcake, we were chatting, and I did this thing that stopped the party,” the Princess Diaries actress shared. “I’ve stopped parties before, but usually not for a good cause. This was a good reason.”

She then demonstrated: “You pull it apart and flip it,” explained Hathaway. “Then you have a sandwich without frosting on your nose.”

Kelly Clarkson compared it to a whoopie pie. “I’ll admit, I’ve never seen anyone do this,” Clarkson confessed before trying the trick herself. The clip went viral across social media, becoming a TikTok sensation.

Anne Hathaway’s Dessert Philosophy

When Hathaway returned to The Kelly Clarkson Show two years later, Clarkson quickly brought up the cupcake moment, highlighting its massive popularity.

“The cupcake hack we discussed, which was just a fun, casual comment, became the most-streamed segment on my show. I’m curious, what can we learn about dessert? Is dessert significant to you?”

Hathaway’s response was pure gold.

“It’s everything,” Hathaway emphasized. “I actually structure my entire day around dessert. Dessert matters a lot. I owe credit to my friend Steph, who noticed my cupcake trick and said, ‘That’s TikTok.’ She was spot on, so thanks, Steph. I may not think highly of myself, but I excel at dessert menus.”

When Clarkson asked if she ever feels envy while ordering — wanting what a friend chose instead — Hathaway delivered the memorable line that echoed online: “No, I order both. Dessert isn’t a time to say no.”

Anne Hathaway’s Full Dessert Ordering Strategy

Hathaway wasn’t finished. She shared her comprehensive dessert strategy with the seriousness usually reserved for valuable life advice.

“I believe in combinations,” Hathaway stated. “Don’t be greedy, but have a plan. The truth is, most people want a taste of almost everything. If a restaurant doesn’t serve good bread, skip the cake.”

Clarkson chimed in with her food philosophy from her Fort Worth upbringing: “If the chips, queso, and salsa aren’t good right at the start, if the food is subpar when you sit down, the rest of the meal will likely follow suit. You need solid chips and salsa. Why even show up? Why open a restaurant if this is the case?”

“Why’d you have to say that? Now I can’t stop thinking about it,” Hathaway joked.
