Julianne Hough Shares Insights on Her Egg-Freezing Experience and Fertility Journey

Julianne Hough is sharing a deeply personal journey: she’s in the process of freezing her eggs.

“I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Dr. Carolyn Alexander and the amazing team at SCRC. Navigating fertility can be complex, especially given my endometriosis and my personal timeline and hopes for parenthood… but with their support, I’ve always felt safe, informed, and cared for,” Hough, 36, stated in an Instagram video on Saturday, June 7.

“This marks my third round of egg freezing, and I understand it’s not the easiest topic to discuss—let alone share publicly,” she added. “Yet, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of opening up about such experiences. Women worldwide are quietly making significant, brave decisions about their bodies and futures. It’s an incredibly vulnerable journey… physically, emotionally, and definitely hormonally.”

Hough expressed her hope that “by sharing a glimpse of my journey, I can help someone feel less isolated or encourage them to ask questions and explore what feels right for them. If that happens, then it’s all worth it.”

“I am endlessly thankful for this team that has been with me since my second endometriosis surgery in 2017… they truly feel like family 💛,” Hough concluded.

The video depicted Hough self-administering hormone injections, organizing supplies, and visiting her doctor over several days.

Hough previously discussed her plans to freeze her eggs in a 2020 interview with Women’s Health. She noted that her endometriosis diagnosis motivated her to look into all her fertility options. “The healthier I am internally—considering my beliefs, energy, and what I consume—the better prepared I’ll be when the right time arrives,” Hough explained.

She added, “We never actively tried to conceive. This was more of a precaution: a proactive step for the future by freezing eggs.”

In early May, Hough congratulated her ex-husband Brooks Laich on the news of his fiancée, Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, being pregnant. The couple announced on May 4 that Davíðsdóttir, 31, is expecting their first child.
