Chanel West Coast Stands Up for Homeschooling Her Daughter Bowie

Chanel West Coast is sharing insights into her choice to homeschool her daughter, Bowie, as she advances in her country music career.

“I’m on tour quite a bit, and at this stage of Bowie’s life, I believe it’s best for me to be present with her as much as I can,” Chanel, 38, told Us exclusively while celebrating the release of her new track, “Tennessee,” earlier this month. “The idea of leaving her for a month for a tour breaks my heart. Since she’s being homeschooled, she can travel with me on the road, allowing us to spend more time together.”

Chanel and her fiancé, Dom Fenison, became parents in November 2022, welcoming their first child. Since then, Bowie has made appearances on their reality show, West Coast Hustle, and has been able to explore various parts of the country.

“It’s wonderful for her to join me on the road because she gets to travel and see new places. It’s adorable,” Chanel shared. “She’s starting to remember all the different locations, and every time we prepare for a trip, she asks, ‘Are we going to Maui? Are we going to Nashville?’”

Chanel clarifies that homeschooling is not a permanent arrangement.

If Bowie expresses a desire to attend a more traditional school in the future, Chanel will fully support her decision.

“But for now, especially given where I am in my career and life, I believe it’s crucial for her to have as much quality time with me as possible,” Chanel shared. “I didn’t have that luxury with my mom. She was a workaholic and a single mom. This created a bit of a rift in our relationship, and we didn’t have that bond because she was always working. That’s the connection I desperately want to cultivate with Bowie.”

When not cherishing her daughter’s milestones, Chanel dedicates her time to writing new songs and crafting music videos.

As she collaborates with Nashville songwriters and producers, Chanel finds herself more inspired than ever to chase her musical dreams.

While pursuing her aspirations, Chanel has encountered some critical fashion opinions and online mommy-shaming. In her conversation with Us, the reality star encouraged women to dress in ways that make them feel confident.

“I usually choose not to wear anything revealing when I’m with my child, perhaps for a music video, performance, or a date night with [Dom],” she expressed. “I tend to dress more conservatively when I’m taking Bowie to ballet class or doing errands. Whenever I’m with her, I prefer a more modest style.”

Chanel added, “There are many age-shamers out there, saying, ‘You’re turning 40 soon,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I just turned 38. I still have two more years.’ … I don’t think I should have to dress more conservatively just because I’m getting older. I want to enjoy my body while I still can.”
