Alaskan Bush People: A Complete Guide to the Brown Family Members and Latest Updates
The family of Alaskan Bush People displayed their distinctive way of life to audiences from 2014 until 2022.
The Discovery Channel’s docudrama-style series centered on Billy Brown and Ami Brown as they thrived in the secluded wilderness of Alaska — and later in Washington state — alongside their seven children: Matt Brown, Joshua “Bam Bam” Brown, Bear Brown, Gabe Brown, Noah Brown, Bird Brown, and Rain Brown.
In February 2021, Billy passed away at 68 after experiencing a seizure.
“He was our best friend — a remarkable and loving dad, granddad, and husband who will be profoundly missed,” Bear expressed on Instagram at the time. “He lived his life on his own terms, off the grid and from the land, teaching us to do the same. We aim to honor his legacy moving forward and to continue his dream.”
After Billy’s passing, the series ceased releasing episodes in 2022. Nonetheless, the Discovery Channel has not yet discontinued it. In March 2025, Bear mentioned that he and his family are “not filming” their show “right now,” but clarified that it is “not canceled.”
“The official status of the show is that it is on hiatus,” he elaborated in an Instagram video, mentioning that the delay is due to Discovery’s “super big merger” a few years back and they are “still getting their ducks in a row.”
