Ali Fedotowsky Shares How Late Bachelor Star Influenced Her Shift to a Vegetarian Diet

Ali Fedotowsky is honoring the memory of late The Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand by adopting specific dietary practices.

In a recent episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s “Off the Vine” podcast on Monday, December 23, Fedotowsky, 40, shared that she felt “so sick” while hosting a travel show called First Look, trying various foods. During an event for The Bachelor in New York, she opened up about her experiences with Allemand.

“I share my feelings with her, and she says, ‘You should try being pescetarian. I’ve felt great being pescetarian for years.’ This means eating only fish and similar foods. I thought, ‘Alright,’” Fedotowsky recalled. “Then we had dinner together, and just 10 days later, she passed away.”

Allemand, who appeared on season 14 of The Bachelor in 2010 alongside Fedotowsky, tragically died by suicide at age 29 in 2013.

“After that, I thought, ‘I’ll try being pescetarian for two weeks,’ like we discussed at dinner,” said Fedotowsky. “But every time I considered eating meat or even thought about it, I couldn’t, because Gia came to mind.”

She continued, “I haven’t eaten meat since our dinner, which was about 14 or 13 years ago, and I’ve been vegetarian ever since.”

The former Bachelorette revealed she hasn’t shared this story in full detail until now. “I’ve mentioned it briefly in Instagram stories, but this is the reason I maintain my diet to this day,” she explained.

Fedotowsky, who married Kevin Manno in 2017, noted that her husband also eliminated meat from his diet. (The couple shares daughter Molly, 8, and son Riley, 6.)

“When I met my husband, he was a big meat eater, but after watching some documentaries, he went completely vegan for a while,” she described. “Now, he isn’t anymore, as living in the south makes it challenging to find suitable options.”

Reflecting on her friendship with Allemand, Fedotowsky mentioned that they reconnected after the show.

“We had our differences on The Bachelor, but we reconciled afterward, which speaks volumes about the kind of person she was,” Fedotowsky remarked, describing Allemand as “so lovely.”
