Amy Schumer Hosts First Birthday Party as a Single Mom for Her Son
Amy Schumer is reveling in a parenting milestone.
“This woman just hosted her first birthday bash as a single mom,” Schumer, 44, shared on her Instagram Story on Sunday, May 3, alongside a cheeky selfie with face paint on her cheek.
She continued to post a collection of photos from her son Gene’s birthday festivities, showing her mingling with guests while enjoying cake. The delightful dessert featured ninja stars, a sword, and a banner that read, “Happy 7th Birthday Gene!”
Schumer also shared several snapshots of animals she encountered at the Central Park Zoo in New York City, beaming while posing with Gene, whose face she cleverly covered with emojis.
“Big thanks to @centralparkzoo for throwing the best birthday party a kid could ever wish for!” Schumer wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “Thanks @thecakenyc and @shellyluanartgallery for the fun face paint, and to everyone who showed up. Feeling so appreciated and supported! @projectparty_nyc for the awesome step and repeat!”
In the comments section, numerous friends expressed their support. “Great Mom right there!” Rebel Wilson commented, while Kathy Hilton added, “🎂🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈💕💕💕💕🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🌸🌸🌸🌸😍.”
Schumer welcomed her son Gene with Chris Fischer in 2019, a year after they exchanged vows in a close-knit ceremony in Malibu. After seven years together, Schumer confirmed in 2025 that she and Fischer had parted ways.
“Blah blah blah Chris and I have decided to end our marriage after 7 years,” Schumer shared via Instagram at the time. “We love each other deeply and will continue to prioritize raising our son. We would appreciate your respect for our privacy during this time.”
Schumer, who posted a nostalgic picture of herself and Fischer riding the NYC subway together, emphasized in her caption that their split wasn’t due to “losing some pounds” or because of his status as a “hot” James Beard “award-winning chef. We remain on good terms and have immense love and respect for one another! Family forever.”
Schumer officially initiated divorce proceedings in January, submitting paperwork to the New York Supreme Court, as reported by Us Weekly at that time. The filing categorized the case as “matrimonial — uncontested.”
In the months that followed, Schumer has been open about navigating her separation. While marking Valentine’s Day in February, she shared a selfie in a DIY “crying corner.”
“Show yourself all the love today,” Schumer advised via her Instagram Story on that occasion, adding, “Happy vday.”
