Carey Hart Leaves Special Forces After Injury: Pink’s Response Revealed
Carey Hart remains astounded by his departure from Special Forces.
“Honestly, it was pretty silly,” Hart, 49, shared during an exclusive chat with Us Weekly ahead of the Wednesday, January 29, episode, sporting a smile.
Though viewers witnessed Hart stumble during the mud run in Wednesday’s episode, what transpired wasn’t entirely clear. He clarified to Us that he tripped over a “plastic speed bump for the cables.”
“It’s completely my fault. We were tackling this tough workout through the muddy pits and into the splash pond, and it was freezing outside. I got hurt because I wasn’t paying close attention,” he explained. “Earlier, we had to complete two laps around the compound and back to the square. In that specific instance, I think it was the second or third round — and I’m not the fastest runner. The DS said, ‘Alright, go out for one loop and come back.’ I was so focused that I ended up doing the full two laps. It was during the second lap that I actually tripped. … Had I been more alert, I would’ve moved forward and avoided that situation.”
“It was pitch black at that point; I couldn’t even see because there was so much mud in my eyes,” he continued, noting that the ankle he injured is his “bad ankle,” one he has struggled with for years. “I actually have to get that ankle fused next year — there’s no cartilage left — and when I fell, I instinctively put my hand out. At first, the pain was more in my wrist than anywhere else, but I kept going.”
Hart mentioned that the left ankle discomfort is “something I’m accustomed to,” yet when it began swelling, it “kept escalating.”
“I decided to sit and warm up in the shower. My wrist was one issue; I’m good with tape and could have managed that, but there was no way I could endure the next few days of the show with a swollen ankle,” he stated.
After the incident, Hart let his fellow competitors know about his departure and quipped that his wife, Pink, would surely laugh when she heard his tale.
“I FaceTimed her that night. When I got injured, it was likely around midnight. By the time I returned to the hotel and retrieved my phone from the safe, it was approximately 3 a.m. U.K. time,” Hart recalled of informing Pink. “She was aware of the timing of the show, and probably thought that, in the back of her mind, any time my phone rings before the last day, I’m likely going to be [injured]. Her initial response was wide-eyed and ghostly pale, asking, ‘Are you okay?’ I replied, ‘Yeah, it’s just my old body.’”
Hart and Pink, who married in 2006, have a daughter named Willow, 13, and a son named Jameson, 8. Hart shared with Us that watching the show with his kids has been “a lot of fun.”

“For most of my career, everything I did is available on YouTube for them. My last serious freestyle event was the X Games when my daughter was a year old. I began to step back from that high-risk part of my career around 12 years ago, so it’s pretty enjoyable to sit on the couch and watch something live on TV, allowing my kids to see what my wife does for a living,” he explained to Us. “My son is a bit starry-eyed due to his younger age. My daughter, who’s tough as nails, asks me every week before and after the show, ‘You’re not going to cry this week, are you?’ and I respond, ‘Will, I don’t cry.’ The only thing she cares about is whether I cry or not.”
Returning to his exit, Hart told Us that his actual “injury was nothing serious at all,” yet he felt disheartened by how it all unfolded.
“It was a little sore for a few days, but then it subsided. I was quite frustrated with myself that a trivial mistake led to my exit,” he admitted. “However, I approached the show knowing it would be a total immersion experience. I planned to tackle one challenge at a time, embracing every moment. To be honest, there were numerous other things from day one or two that could have sidelined me. So, it was a bit of a double-edged sword. I felt accomplished in how far I’d come, but not being able to stand on that platform with the DS just 48 hours or so from the finish line did sting my ego a bit.”
The DS did commend Hart for how he handled himself.
“What those four men, along with all special forces and armed forces do for us, means a lot. That was a significant compliment,” he shared with Us. “I truly value the praise they offered, and I was fortunate enough to connect with the guys a bit. I gave it my all, put myself on the line, and I have no regrets.”
