Dads Connect Through Their Diverse Parenting Approaches on ‘SNL’

The inaugural episode of “Saturday Night Live” in 2025, which aired on January 18, delivered an abundance of laughter, largely due to guest host Dave Chappelle making his fourth appearance in this role.

Chappelle teamed up with cast member Marcello Hernández for a sketch titled “Immigrant Dad Talk Show 2,” reviving Hernández’s character, the immigrant talk show host Joaquin Antonio Gonzalez Hernández Suarez, from Season 49.

In the sketch, Joaquin Antonio and his neighbor, affectionately dubbed Black Richard (Chappelle), find common ground as they struggle to understand the cultural interests of their sons, who are into improv comedy and maintaining a vegan lifestyle.

“Welcome to ‘Immigrant Dad Talk Show.’ This is the place where we discuss our children, the ones we cherish as well as our sons,” Joaquin Antonio declares in his strong Cuban accent while he and Richard relax on lawn chairs, puffing on cigarettes.

The duo then begins to joke about the puzzling behaviors of their sons.

“My son is obsessed with TikTok. I tell him, ‘Let me TikTok you something,'” Joaquin Antonio exclaims with irritation. “Get a job, man! You’re broke and ugly. You can’t be both!”

He later empathizes with Richard about their sons’ penchant for “going to Brooklyn to do improv with the white people.”

“Just the other day, my son tells me, ‘I want to be vegan.’ I said to him, ‘We’ll talk about veganism after you eat the chicken!'” he yells.

Joaquin Antonio subsequently introduces another guest, a white neighbor named Kevin (Mikey Day), who possesses a demeanor that could rival Mister Rogers. Kevin shares that he works as a guidance counselor at a school for children with learning disabilities.

When asked by Joaquin Antonio how they would handle their sons if they slammed a door in frustration, Kevin suggests using the “three Cs” — communication, compassion, and care, which elicits laughter and crude remarks from the other men.

Richard humorously remarks that he would be “surprised” if his son could actually slam his bedroom door since he no longer has one. “I took it off the hinges because he became addicted to pornography,” he reveals.

Kevin then invites his son Connor (Andrew Dismukes) to the segment.

“Hey dad, I’m so fortunate to be your son,” Connor exclaims to his father.

“You’re not just my son; you’re my best friend,” Kevin responds warmly.

The father-son duo then showcases their special handshake, which concludes with a kiss on the lips that leaves Joaquin Antonio and Richard in shock.

“No! No! You can’t kiss your son like Tom Brady,” Joaquin Antonio shouts, covering his eyes in disbelief.

The sketch wraps up with Richard introducing one of his sons (Devon Walker) for a brief cameo. The twist? It turns out that father and son have never met until this moment.

“How’s it going? Good to meet you,” Richard’s son says as they shake hands.

“Nice to meet you too,” Richard replies before his son quickly leaves.

Fans of “SNL” shared their enthusiasm for the sketch in the comments on YouTube.

“One of the best & funniest bits of the new SNL era; this should never stop,” one viewer commented.

“I hope this recurring segment lasts indefinitely!” another added.
