Drew Barrymore Discusses Aging Gracefully and Loving Herself
Drew Barrymore shared with a studio audience that she hasn’t engaged in any cosmetic surgery and hopes to maintain that decision.
On the Friday, April 25, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host was asked for tips on aging gracefully.
“I haven’t done anything and I want to try to stay that way,” she replied, as seen in a video of the discussion shared on Instagram that day. “But I also believe in doing whatever works for you. I know a woman who faced many challenges in her life, and she made a change that helped her feel great about herself, transforming her entire outlook.”
For Barrymore, it’s essential to focus on being non-judgmental. “We’re all on our unique paths, and it’s crucial that we support one another. I often notice aspects like ‘turkey neck’ and think, wow, we’re at that point now. I don’t have a specific tip aside from reminding myself not to be too harsh on myself,” she added.
For Barrymore, the focus is on treating ourselves with kindness and love. “The kinder, more patient, more resilient, more loving, and less judgmental we are, the better it is for our mental and spiritual well-being, which also reflects on our appearance,” she noted.
“A smile is worth more than any lipstick you can buy,” she continued. “It’s important to foster an internal dialogue that doesn’t tear us down or fixate on flaws. Who defines those flaws anyway? They might be someone else’s favorite trait about you. The truth is, it’s not about how you look; it’s about how you feel.”
Barrymore celebrated her 50th birthday in February 2025 and revealed in advance her plan for a sleepover with her daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.
“We’ll be the three sardines in our can,” she shared with Us Weekly. “I have a tradition of spending the night with them on my birthday and their birthdays, so I’m planning a couple of sleepovers leading up to my 50th, including one with my daughters. The whole theme for my 50th is sleepovers. We should never outgrow them.”
After the conversation, Barrymore texted to say the interview prompted her to view her often challenging past more positively. “You helped me realize that my two toughest decades (teens and 40s) were actually my favorites,” she reflected. “And I’m so happy about that discovery.”
