Evan Hofer Talks About the Death of Dex in General Hospital (Exclusive)

Alert: This article reveals key plot points from General Hospital.

General Hospital’s Evan Hofer is set to film his final scenes as Dex Heller leading up to his character’s unexpected demise.

“That last shot really gives the impression that Dex is quite dead,” Hofer, 27, told Us Weekly in an exclusive interview while reflecting on the episode aired on December 13. “It was an incredible experience because I got to work alongside Jeff Kober, who portrays Cyrus Renault on the show. He plays a serial killer and a real monster of a character. However, Jeff is an extraordinary person and an amazing actor. For those last scenes, I was determined to bring my A-game.”

From Hofer’s viewpoint, being part of a “twist death” with Kober was a privilege.

“I told myself, ‘I prepared extra diligently for you because I knew you’d be here, and I wanted to bring my best,’” Hofer explained, summarizing his character’s destiny. “It’s about how Dex was going to confront Cyrus in the hospital while working for Sonny. It’s a true twist of fate, very much in the soap opera style.”

Hofer debuted on General Hospital in 2022 and featured in over 200 episodes before his character met an untimely end.

During his time on set, Hofer found inspiration from soap opera icons such as Maurice Benard, Cynthia Watros, Chad Duell, Josh Swickard, and Michael Easton.

“For me, it was a fantastic opportunity for acting, top to bottom,” Hofer expressed to Us. “It was always a ‘Wow. What an amazing story to tell.’ This was the narrative, and it was going to unfold, and I strived to execute it to the best of my ability while soaking in those incredible final scenes with people I admire.”

While soap opera enthusiasts have seen beloved characters return after shocking deaths, Hofer is not disclosing any information about future developments.

Instead, he’s excited about the chance he had to shape and evolve a character over two years.

“From my very first day at General Hospital, I was thankful for every day,” Hofer noted. “As I leave, it truly felt like a second home for the past two and a half years, and I couldn’t have appreciated it more, nor do I cherish the people any less. But now it’s time for a new adventure.”

Hofer mentioned that he has some “exciting projects ahead” that he anticipates sharing in 2025.

“I aim to continue working on wonderful projects that I enjoy and that challenge me as an actor, just like General Hospital has for the last two and a half years,” he stated. “Stay tuned.”

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
