Hoda Kotb has shared numerous significant life events—both joyous and challenging—with television viewers over the years.
In early 2023, Kotb notably missed multiple episodes of the Today show. Her cohosts Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones announced in March that her absence was due to a “family health matter,” which Kotb later disclosed involved her youngest daughter, Hope.
“[Hope] was in the ICU for a few days and in the hospital for a little more than a week,” Kotb revealed during a March 2023 episode of Today. “I’m incredibly grateful she’s home. … I anxiously awaited that day. And we are keeping a close watch on her. I’m just so relieved.”
Kotb, who departed from Today in January 2025, co-parents Hope and her older daughter, Haley, with her former fiancé, Joel Schiffman. The couple ended their relationship after eight years together in January 2022. During Hope’s health ordeal, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Schiffman had “been by their side.”
The insider shared: “Hoda has set aside everything to be there for her youngest—by her hospital bedside—and to handle anything she could possibly need. Hope is now doing better and is recovering at home.”
