Is Scott Patterson Coming Back for Season 5 of Sullivan’s Crossing?
Scott Patterson has departed from Sullivan’s Crossing, but could there still be a possibility for his return following a shakeup?
According to Deadline, creator Roma Roth has stepped down as head writer ahead of season 5. Floyd Kane will now manage daily operations while Roth focuses on several other projects.
Roth will continue as an executive producer for the popular series, which has been renewed by CTV and is pending a pickup by The CW. Filming is expected to commence later this summer in Nova Scotia, with Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray both returning.
As reported by Deadline, there are currently no plans for Patterson, 67, to make a comeback. He was approached by Roth about a potential return to his role as Sully before news of his exit in season 4 came to light.
“Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded with Sully leaving for Ireland, which set the stage for a new chapter in his life. Season 4 picks up the following day, with Sully still abroad,” Roth shared with Us in March. “Even though he won’t be physically present this season, the character remains integral to the storyline, with the option to return in future seasons if it fits within the creative direction.”
Patterson later commented on the reasons behind his surprising departure, stating via Instagram that same month, “The creative differences were becoming untenable, and I sadly realized that I could not continue on with the show.”
Patterson hinted at underlying tensions during production.
“It’s unfortunate that it’s now suggested that they moved on from me/Sully, when, in fact, the opposite is true. Those who have spoken out are also aware of this, yet they chose to say otherwise,” he continued. “I hadn’t intended to make any statements, but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth. I have always respected those who support this industry by watching and loving these characters that we are so fortunate to portray.”
Murray, 44, also shared his perspective on the surprising changes during an April interview with Yahoo Canada.
“Various unexpected events can occur. You never know,” Murray remarked regarding Patterson’s departure. “It prompts you to reflect on the show’s essence, where it stands, and how to preserve its authenticity. That responsibility lies within the text and storytelling.”
Murray reassured fans that Sully’s influence would still be evident.
“There’s no doubt in my mind about that. The show remains true to itself, and Sully continues to be an important part of it,” he added. “He still exists within this world, and that relationship endures. He built the Crossing, and it’s always going to be there; it serves as the foundation of the show.”
