Jenna Bush Hager’s Son Hal Feels ‘Jealous’ of Her Relationship with Husband Henry
Jenna Bush Hager’s 5-year-old son, Hal, has some intense feelings regarding her relationship with her husband, Henry Hager.
“We find ourselves in this moment that I think many of you can relate to, where our youngest son feels jealous of our romance,” Bush Hager, 43, mentioned while cohosting Today With Jenna & Friends with Hager, 46, on Friday, March 28.
Hager elaborated on a recent incident showcasing Hal’s romantic jealousy, narrating, “We were all in the kitchen, enjoying a meal, and everything was cheerful. I leaned over and gave you a kiss, just a sweet little peck, and Hal burst into tears.”
Hager remarked that Hal’s response to the kiss was “total devastation,” while Bush Hager humorously added, “It felt like Hal and I were a couple, and you just swooped in and took him away from me.”
Bush Hager then shared that her husband told their son, “’The reason you’re here is that your mom and I care for each other,’” before leaning in for another kiss, “just to tease the poor guy,” she joked.
Hager emphasized the importance of setting boundaries, saying, “You’re my spouse, and he can’t just move in on my wife.”
The couple tied the knot in 2008 and welcomed their first child, daughter Mila, in April 2013. Their family grew with the arrival of daughter Poppy in August 2015 and son Hal in August 2019.

Hager is one of several guest hosts to join Bush Hager for the fourth hour of Today following Hoda Kotb’s departure from the NBC morning show earlier this year. He capped off the show’s “Family Week” of guest hosts, which also featured Bush Hager’s twin sister, Barbara Bush, along with cousins Wendy Stapleton and Sam Bush LeBlond.
Bush Hager previously disclosed that there’s one family member she won’t permit to cohost with her — her eldest daughter, Mila. “She made a very controversial statement,” she recalled about Mila’s last appearance on Today in December 2022 during a January interview with E! News. “Consequently, my husband imposed a lifetime ban on her. We might consider lifting it for bring your kids to work day, but let’s just say she hasn’t always been the most supportive.”
It was in the December 2022 episode that Mila shared some “truth bombs” about Bush Hager, mentioning a time when her mother laughed so hard she wet her pants and claiming that Bush Hager “never wears underwear.”
Mila and her siblings sent a video message during the Thursday, March 27, episode of Jenna & Friends to wish their father “good luck” with hosting. “I bet you’re going to do great,” Hal said, while Mila added, “Dad, good luck. Do what you practiced in the car because it was really good. Good luck, Dad!”
Hager called the surprise message “so sweet,” and Bush Hager shared that Mila delivered the “best impersonation” of Hager rehearsing for the hosting role in the car. “She was like, ‘And then, Dad was like, ‘You know, I’m just gonna be authentic. I’m just gonna lead from my heart. And I’m just gonna say all the ways I love mom,’’” Bush Hager recalled while mimicking her daughter.
