Katy Perry Under Investigation Following Ruby Rose’s Sexual Assault Allegations

Katy Perry is currently under police investigation following a report filed by Ruby Rose that alleges sexual assault involving the pop star.

Victoria Police in Australia confirmed the investigation to Us Weekly early Wednesday, April 15. “Detectives from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are looking into a historical sexual assault that reportedly occurred in Melbourne in 2010,” a spokesperson said. “The incident is said to have taken place at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s CBD.” This news was first reported by Australia’s Herald Sun.

Rose, 40, attracted attention on Sunday, April 12, after responding to a social media post regarding Perry’s comment on Justin Bieber’s Coachella 2026 performance the day before. “Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who cares what she thinks [about the performance],” the Orange Is the New Black star wrote on Threads. (In her Instagram post, Perry had joked about Bieber’s performance, saying, “Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.”)

In later posts, Rose indicated that the alleged incident took place “almost 2 decades” ago.

A representative for Perry issued a statement to Us Weekly on Monday, April 13, asserting that “the allegations circulating on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerously reckless lies.”

The statement further elaborated, “Ms. Rose has a documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, all of which have been denied by those named.”

Victoria Police confirmed to Us that the “investigation remains ongoing.”

Rose elaborated on the alleged incident in a subsequent Threads post on Sunday, stating, “After it, I threw up on her. I originally shared the story publicly as a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to process it,” she claimed. “Later, she agreed to assist me with my U.S. visa. So, I kept it private. But I did express my feelings about her not being a good person. Unfortunately, I faced backlash from … Everyone.”

In another Threads post, Rose maintained that she “didn’t kiss” Perry, but shared more claimed details. “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her, then bent down, pulled her underwear to the side, and rubbed her private parts on my face until I woke up and projectile vomited [sic] on her,” Rose asserted.

Rose stated she was “not interested in filing a report regarding this incident, especially since I haven’t reported numerous assaults by adult men,” but noted that Perry was “welcome to sue me.”

The day before news of the police investigation broke, Rose posted on Threads, “Hi! Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have completed all my reports. This means I cannot comment, repost, or speak publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.”

She added, “This is a standard request from the police and, in many ways, a relief. I can now begin the healing process and [temporarily] move forward. I appreciate all of you so much.”
