Melissa Rivers Reveals the Worst Dressed Stars at the 2026 Emmys
While the Emmys are considered the pinnacle of television celebrations, not every celebrity made a stunning impression on the red carpet.
Fashion Police veteran Melissa Rivers shared her thoughts with Us on the evening’s worst-dressed stars, particularly commenting on the outfits of Shailene Woodley and Rachel Sennott at the event held on Monday, September 14.
“Both of them were decked out in Balenciaga, and it seems like someone at the label doesn’t have their best interests in mind,” Rivers joked with Us. “For instance, Sarah Snook also wore Balenciaga, but she looked fantastic.” (Snook, aged 38, donned an elegant off-the-shoulder white dress with a sweeping column skirt.)
The host of “Melissa Rivers’ Group Text Podcast” remarked that an outfit that shines on the runway doesn’t always mean it will work “in real life.”
“I can envision Shailene’s outfit strutting down the runway,” Rivers exclusively mentioned to Us about her getup featuring a blue top with a plunging neckline, gold beaded wide-leg trousers, and burgundy gloves. Woodley, aged 34, complemented her look with a vibrant stone necklace, styling her brunette locks in a sleek ponytail. “It’s not really for ordinary people,” Rivers noted.
“This often leads to a challenge,” Rivers, who has recently launched her YouTube channel, The Joan Rivers Show, expressed to Us. “Just to clarify, Shailene looked fabulous at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards where she took home an award. The issue is that people often think, ‘Wow, it’s straight off the runway from a major designer,’ and get overly excited without considering how it actually appears on them in person.”
Rivers didn’t place the Baywatch cast, including Brooks Nader, Jessica Belkin, and Hassie Harrison, on her worst-dressed list, but she felt their coordinated cherry-red gowns, reminiscent of their famous swimsuits, didn’t leave a lasting impression either.
“I could imagine everyone thinking, ‘What a clever homage to the show,’ but when they all stood together … it just didn’t visually please me,” Rivers remarked. “It felt more like a costume than elegant gowns.”
Rivers commented on the intense heat on the red carpet, noting, “The trend with sweaty men was definitely not desirable.”

She also pointed out that several men at the event sported beards that clashed with their hair color.
“There were all these guys with dark hair but gray beards. I asked my husband, ‘Is it that their beards go gray before their hair? Or did they dye their hair and just say, f*** it, let the beard stay gray?’”
