Nara Smith Shares That Her Daughter’s Curls Are Making a Comeback During Cancer Battle
Influencer Nara Smith is sharing her thoughts on how everyday moments with her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy, have been transformed during the toddler’s fight against cancer.
“Cancer takes away things you never knew you’d mourn,” Smith expressed via Instagram on Tuesday, July 7. “The day I felt her hair slipping through my fingers, I understood I wouldn’t be brushing Whimsy’s hair for much longer. It seems minor, until it becomes significant. Tiny curls left on her pillow. Hair tangled in my fingers after bath time. Hair loss is among the first visible signs that everything has changed.”
She added, “Watching Whimsy lose her hair has been one of the most difficult aspects of this journey. It wasn’t only about hair. It was those little curls I used to tuck behind her ears, the delicate strands catching the light, and all the simple moments I never thought I’d yearn for.”
Alongside her message, she shared a tender moment of herself kissing her daughter’s head while Nara’s husband, Lucky Blue Smith, cradled their child. (Nara and Lucky are also the proud parents of daughter Rumble Honey, 5, son Slim Easy, 4, and daughter Fawnie Golden, 9 months. Lucky has a daughter named Gravity from a previous relationship with Stormi Bree Henley.)
In another video, Nara rested her head on Lucky’s shoulder as he shaved their daughter’s hair. A final clip featured their daughter walking down a hallway, her bald head visible beneath her dress.
“Changes,” Nara wrote over the video, accompanied by a simple white heart emoji.
Her caption continued, “If sharing these aspects of our lives helps even one family feel less isolated or encourages someone to learn more about childhood cancer, then revealing this vulnerable side of our lives is worthwhile. Today, her curls are coming back🤍.”
Nara disclosed in June that Whimsy was diagnosed with cancer “late last year” after a pediatrician examined “something suspicious” on her body.
“When we brought her to the pediatrician, I distinctly remember him becoming very quiet and calm… My heart sank in that moment,” she recounted via Instagram at that time. “I wasn’t sure if it was just a mom’s intuition or something else, but the first thought that crossed my mind was that she had cancer.”
Whimsy underwent numerous X-rays, ultrasounds, and ultimately a biopsy. Nara and Lucky were informed “immediately” afterward about the diagnosis.
“[They] informed us that it had spread and that she needed to start chemotherapy right away,” Nara recalled.
The influencer later posted a series of images of Whimsy during her health battle, including one showcasing her with a bedazzled head.
“Little warrior girl🎀,” Nara wrote via Instagram on Friday, July 3. “Sharing something this personal was not an easy choice, but every message, prayer, and shared story of a similar experience has made it a bit more bearable. We’re here for every family or parent going through something difficult right now, thinking of you too🤍.”
