Paige Buechele Reflects on Her Cheerleading Journey as Shane Buechele’s Wife
Paige Buechele, the wife of Buffalo Bills quarterback Shane Buechele, is content in her retirement from cheerleading, yet she has some lingering regrets as a former member of the Orange Squad.
Paige was a cheerleader at the University of Texas, where she met Shane, who was then the Longhorns’ quarterback. In a recent Instagram Stories post from June 19, she admitted that she wished she had auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, known as America’s Sweethearts.
“OMG, I WISH,” she exclaimed in response to a fan query. “I’ve cheered my whole life, and the DCC are amazing dancers…I really wish I had pursued that path. They have my utmost respect!”
Paige mentioned that she recently began watching the second season of the Netflix docuseries, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Married to Shane in 2023 and welcoming their daughter Blaize in April, Paige has decided not to return to cheerleading. When asked if she would join the Bills’ cheer squad if one existed, she responded, “Hahaha, I am retired.”
She elaborated on the physical toll that years of collegiate cheerleading took on her body.
“Years of tumbling and performing fulls on turf can take a toll!” she shared. “I already deal with arthritis and some herniated discs from all the impact on my back from cheerleading.”
Paige also emphasized that those who dismiss cheerleading as not being a sport are sadly misinformed.
“I often chuckle when people claim cheerleading isn’t a sport because they clearly don’t understand the extensive nature of competitive and collegiate cheerleading,” she stated. “I won’t waste my breath trying to explain it to them.”
A former Miss Dallas USA, Paige is now a licensed realtor in Texas, Kansas, and Missouri (Shane began his career with the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the Bills in 2023). While managing her new mom responsibilities, she noted that she’s approaching her favorite part of the football season.
“At this stage of life, preseason is my favorite,” she shared. “Training camp is exciting, especially now that we have a daughter to watch her daddy play. It’s such an exhilarating time and a crucial part of the season for Shane, so I cherish it.”
Shane re-signed with the Bills for the 2024-25 offseason on a one-year contract, with training camp set to begin on July 23.
