Spencer Pratt Applauds News of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Potential Conclusion
Spencer Pratt is relishing the idea of Jimmy Kimmel Live! coming to a close after 25 seasons.
“[California Gov. Gavin] Newsom and Kimmel leaving next year?? My heart can’t stop laughing! Things are looking UP fam,” the 43-year-old former Los Angeles mayoral candidate tweeted on Tuesday, September 8, coinciding with the emergence of reports about the late-night show’s end.
In spite of Pratt’s excitement, an ABC Entertainment representative informed Us that the claims were inaccurate. “This information is incorrect. Any reports regarding the future of the show at this moment are purely speculative,” the statement asserted.
Kimmel, 58, and the former reality television star have been involved in a public dispute since May, when Kimmel delivered a monologue that targeted Pratt’s surge in popularity during his mayoral campaign. (Pratt finished third in Los Angeles’ primary election in June.)
“You have a guy … whose job is to be the loud jerk on reality shows, and his house burns down,” Kimmel remarked during the May 27 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “So even though he lacked private insurance on his house and doesn’t believe in climate change, it’s understandable that he’s upset about his house burning down. And due to his moderate fame, he garners attention. For the first time in his life, people are agreeing with what he says. It’s hard not to agree. He’s frustrated with the same issues that many locals share. Does he have the answers to these issues? No.”
At the same time, Pratt responded by sharing videos of his Pacific Palisades, California home being ravaged during a wildfire in 2025. He escalated his response via X soon after, likening Kimmel to Harvey Weinstein after Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, publicly discussed how their romance blossomed while she was employed by him. (McNearney, 48, works as a co-head writer and executive producer on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after advancing through the show’s ranks.)
“Isn’t this what Harvey Weinstein did?” Pratt questioned via X on August 24 while sharing an article titled, “When Jimmy Kimmel’s wife realized he ‘wanted to f***’ during ‘bad idea’ romance: ‘He was my boss.’” (Weinstein, 74, has faced multiple charges of rape and sexual assault and married his assistant Eve Chilton in 1987.)
McNearney recently shared her views on Kimmel’s potential retirement during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast. “It definitely appeals to me for the sake of our household’s peace,” she noted on the August 24 episode.
She further elaborated, “I envision Jimmy having a fly rod in one hand and a torch in the other right now. He deserves to go out, relax by the river, but I also want him to keep fighting. I feel a strong urge for him not to give up because I believe what he is doing is incredibly vital right now. And yes, I understand we are operating in a vacuum, but I think it provides people with a sense of their voices being heard, and I find that important.”
However, McNearney concluded, “As his wife, I genuinely wish he could stop doing the show so he could unwind.”
