The Challenge Cast Responds to Tyler Duckworth’s Passing
The Challenge family pays tribute to former contestant Tyler Duckworth following the confirmation of his passing by his relatives.
“My son, Tyler, left us earlier this week. The cause of death has not yet been determined,” Joni Duckworth shared on Facebook on Thursday, August 13. “I will provide information about the services on Facebook as soon as his dad and I make arrangements.”
Tyler’s passing comes almost two weeks after he attended the The Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis.
In his last social media update before his passing, the 44-year-old reality star conveyed his enthusiasm for meeting fans and connecting with fellow contestants.
“So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis alongside these other Challenge legends,” Tyler posted on Instagram on August 2. “The support from fans is what keeps us coming back! Hearing your stories of courage, inspiration, and joy that come from being a fan of the franchise is truly humbling.”
Fans got to know Tyler when he featured on MTV’s The Real World: Key West in 2006, shortly after graduating from Tufts University. He subsequently competed in six seasons of The Challenge, including The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2, and All Stars 3. He was crowned champion on both Cutthroat and Rivals.
As family and friends grieve his loss, Us is compiling heartfelt tributes from members of The Challenge. Continue reading to discover how Paulie Calafiore, Derrick Kosinski, and more stars are honoring a formidable competitor:

Tina Barta
“Some friendships last for years, while others are defined by memories, laughter, shared experiences, and the energy someone brings into a room,” The Challenge star Tina Barta shared on Instagram. “@themightyduckworth, you were one of those extraordinary individuals. A true friend and confidant.💔… Tyler, thank you for being part of my journey. I am grateful our paths intertwined in this beautiful life, and I will forever cherish those memories. Rest peacefully, my dear friend 🕊️.”
Derrick Kosinski
“We shared a space on All Stars 2, and he was a truly wonderful person. His passing is so heartbreaking,” Challenge Mania cohost and The Challenge alum Derrick Kosinski told People. “He was a bright light and a joy to be around. Plus, he beat me in elimination during the original Cutthroat. That was after he eliminated Johnny Bananas in the iconic ‘Back Up Off Me’ backpack elimination. He battled CT for 40 minutes! He doesn’t receive enough recognition for that. He won that season and repeated that victory with Johnny on Rivals.”
Katie Cooley
“I am devastated to hear about Tyler. He brought humor to every situation, always making us laugh while sweating profusely for no apparent reason,” Katie Cooley expressed on Facebook. “He was a truly unique individual. Sending love to everyone who knew him. Rest easy, friend.”
Johnny Bananas
“When it rains, it pours 💔🦆,” The Challenge veteran Johnny Bananas remarked via X.
Wes Bergmann
“Tyler was an extraordinary man and a good friend to many. He made compelling television. He was a strong competitor and an excellent swimmer. And eater,” champion Wes Bergmann wrote via X. “This is a truly devastating loss. Reach out to your friends, everyone.”
Jemmye Carroll
“I am completely heartbroken over the unexpected loss of Tyler. He was the first Real World alum that Knight and I hung out with after our season wrapped up, before it even aired,” The Challenge star Jemmye Carroll shared via X. “He was the one who officially welcomed us into this family. A television icon, a Challenge powerhouse, and genuinely one of the best.”
Ace Amerson
“The last thing I told him was that he was pure light and my Spirit Animal. My mother was a clairvoyant psychic who taught me to read palms back in her ‘Witch days.’ I typically whip it out on Halloween or when I meet someone truly exceptional. Tyler was beyond exceptional,” The Challenge star Ace Amerson wrote Instagram. “His love line was complex, his life line was short, his faith line was unbroken, and his past lives were countless. He was an ancient soul and one of my all-time favorites. Until next time, my friend ❤️.”
Zach Nichols
“Our hearts are in pieces 💔,” The Challenge vet and podcast host Zach Nichols wrote via Instagram. “Tyler was a genuinely caring, thoughtful, and funny individual to us. Sending prayers to him and his family; the world lost a remarkable person 🙏🏽.”
Melinda Collins
“Every memory I have with you is accompanied by a story that brings a smile to my face. Diet cokes, Tundra, the Minneapolis gay bar, ketchup. You had a unique way of enhancing everything, making it more enjoyable and vibrant. Some of my most cherished memories are the absurd, hilarious moments we shared. Those are the memories I will cling to the hardest,” The Real World alum Melinda Collins wrote on Instagram. “I’m devastated that there won’t be more stories, more laughs, or more unforgettable moments. But I’m incredibly grateful I got to know you and share those laughs with you. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be missed deeply.”
‘The Challenge’
“We are mourning the loss of Tyler Duckworth, a cherished member of The Real World and The Challenge family. He will be profoundly missed,” the show announced on its official Instagram account. “Our thoughts are with Tyler’s family and friends during this extremely challenging time ❤️.”
