Why John Stamos Says He’ll ‘Never’ Compete on Dancing With the Stars

John Stamos has made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of joining Dancing With the Stars.

During the episode of “The Bobbycast” podcast on Tuesday, July 7, Stamos, 62, revealed that he’s been invited to participate “every single season” but refuses to sign up.

“I said, ‘Don’t ever ask me again,’” Stamos added. “I’m never gonna do that show.”

Host Bobby Bones, who won season 27 of the ABC ballroom dance competition, encouraged Stamos to rethink his decision. Bones, 46, suggested that Stamos would “learn so much” about himself from the experience, especially if he partnered with pro Emma Slater.

“I just never… What makes that show entertaining is watching people suffer and look foolish,” Stamos replied. “They’re breaking their feet, developing calluses… I don’t want that.”

Stamos had previously dismissed the prospect of competing on DWTS via X in 2010, stating, “I’m not doing Dancing With the Stars. Flattered to be asked. I’m not a dancer.”

Even though DWTS isn’t on his list of desired projects, Stamos is open to exploring new opportunities.

“[I am] in this phase of my career where I’m really seeking challenging, diverse roles,” he told People in March. “People trust me. I’ve been a part of their lives for 30, 40 years or so. It’s like, ‘OK, we’ll take this journey with him,’ and then it’s like, ‘Oh no, oh no, it’s getting weird. It’s getting weird.’“

He went on: “I just completed Hunting Wives, which is a pretty dark, wild show.”

The Full House alum also recalled his wife Caitlin McHugh’s reaction to him joining the hit Netflix series.

“I told my wife I was doing it, and she asked, ‘Are you going to show your penis?’” he shared on Today in December 2025. “And I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ But it’s one of those shows.”

At that time, host Craig Melvin asked Stamos if he had confirmed with his scripts that there would be no nude scenes, but the actor admitted he hadn’t read anything about his role yet.

When asked if potential nudity would be a dealbreaker for him, Stamos responded, “Well, we’ll see.”

Based on May Cobb‘s book of the same name, The Hunting Wives revolves around Sophie (Brittany Snow), who becomes fascinated with prominent Texas socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman) after moving from Boston. While some viewers are drawn to the murder mystery at its core, The Hunting Wives also served up ample entertainment with its steamy onscreen romances.

The eight-episode series, which premiered in July 2025, was originally filmed for Starz before Lionsgate Television took over the rights. Netflix secured U.S. licensing for the series for a year, providing viewers with more captivating content than they anticipated.

Season 2 is expected to premiere soon after completing production.
