Drew Barrymore Shares Unexpected Story Behind Her Mile-High Club Experience

Drew Barrymore disclosed her membership in the mile-high club — but not in the typical fashion.

On the Monday, February 9, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host shared with guest Kaley Cuoco that she’s part of the notorious “club,” adding a humorous twist: “American Airlines.”

When Cuoco, 40, inquired if it was a “difficult” maneuver, Barrymore, 50, responded, “No. It worked well. He was in the bathroom.”

Barrymore has openly talked about re-entering the dating world after her divorce from ex-husband Will Kopelman. The couple married in 2012 and welcomed daughters Olive and Frankie. After four years together, they announced their separation in April 2016.

After Kopelman’s wedding to Alexandra Michler in 2021, Barrymore mentioned she wasn’t ready to find The One.

“I have two young girls, and I don’t want to bring people home,” she said on a January 2022 episode of her show. “It would take me a long time to meet someone and truly get to know them before introducing them to my daughters.”

Later, during a September 2022 episode, Barrymore revealed she could go “years without sex.” She expanded on her personal blog regarding the absence of an “intimate relationship” for some time.

“After two kids and a separation from their father that has made me cautious, I’ve had the opportunity to shift my focus toward self-love and my daughters,” she wrote in October 2022. “I know this doesn’t include a man, nor has it for a while. I learned something in therapy that clarified the difference: ‘Sex is not love! It is the expression of love.’ Those words helped me understand my journey.”

She continued: “Since becoming a single mom, I haven’t pursued intimate relationships. I’ve been privileged to work on myself and learn what parenting truly means, something I was less clear on growing up.”

Barrymore emphasized her desire to set a positive example for her daughters.

“I’m in a different phase of my life right now, and perhaps someday I’ll seek a relationship,” she explained. “But that hasn’t been my main focus. I don’t feel the need for casual encounters; I’m deeply committed to nurturing the values that empower young girls, my daughters, and myself as a woman. A relationship with a man hasn’t been a priority for a long time.”

In her post, Barrymore mentioned the importance of remaining “very celibate” after her marriage ended to honor the “loss of a nuclear family that I envisioned for my daughters.”

“I’ve reached a point where I can laugh about how being with a partner isn’t my current priority, but that doesn’t mean I won’t reconsider in the future. I need time, and my perspective on sex has genuinely shifted,” she concluded.
