Timeline of Mikayla and Jace’s Relationship from Mormon Wives

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives provided a look into Mikayla Matthews’ relationship with her husband Jace Terry before their unexpected separation.

Upon its release on Hulu in September 2024, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives introduced audiences to Mikayla and Jace, alongside Jen Affleck and her husband Zac Affleck, Demi Engemann and Bret Engemann, Whitney Leavitt and Conner Leavitt, Mayci Neeley and Jacob Neeley, Jessi Ngatikaura and Jordan Ngatikaura, Taylor Frankie Paul and her then-partner Dakota Mortensen, as well as Layla Taylor. (Miranda Hope joined the cast in season 2 following her breakup with Chase McWhorter.)

As the Utah-based influencers (commonly known as MomTok) shared their personal stories, some relationships prompted viewer scrutiny. Mikayla and Jace drew attention after she disclosed that she was only 16 when she first met Jace, who was 21. In a 2021 TikTok, Mikayla revealed that she discovered her pregnancy “after less than a month of knowing” Jace.

“I decided to keep the baby, told him, and he was 110 percent supportive, and we went from there,” she recalled.

“Navigating this environment is complicated, as I require significant support from him through all of this,” Mikayla shared exclusively with Us Weekly in March 2026, reflecting on her current dynamics with Jace. “It’s just one of those things we’re still figuring out; it has its ups and downs.”

In addition to marital problems, Mikayla sought solutions for her chronic health issues.

“Sadly, I feel trapped in a situation where my health is beyond my control,” she conveyed to Us. “Once I regain control over that, I think I can manage other aspects of my life. It’s a matter of time and patience. That’s something we’re still navigating, and it will take some time to work through.”

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives highlighted Mikayla Matthews’ ongoing health struggles, contributing to their intimacy issues. Season 4 portrayed the couple’s battle to navigate how her past trauma impacted their relationship.

“Addressing the subject of intimacy can be challenging,” Mikayla expressed to Jace during the show. “It’s hard for me because my nervous system feels like it’s always in fight or flight mode, and I’m already overwhelmed. My capacity is stretched to its limits.”

Jace encouraged Mikayla to work on their marriage, stating, “I understand, but to me, the resolution seems like committing to trauma therapy until you reach a point where it doesn’t cause your nervous system to react that way.”

After confirming their separation on-screen, Mikayla remained somewhat vague with Us regarding their living arrangements.

“I mean, we’re filming right now, so I can’t reveal too much,” Mikayla stated to Us. “I’m trying to determine whether it’s my home making me feel unwell, if it’s Utah as a whole, or what steps I need to take for my healing. I feel a lot of anxiety and stress surrounding that decision of whether I need to remove myself from my home, marriage, or even the state itself. It’s a situation I’m still deeply involved in.”
