How Motherhood Aided Lauren Alaina in Healing After Her Father’s Passing
Country music artist Lauren Alaina expresses her gratitude to God and her daughter for guiding her through the pain of a heartbreaking loss in her family.
“The past couple of years have transformed my life, not only because I embraced motherhood but also due to the loss of my father, which I’ve been open about,” Alaina, 31, shared during the April 15 episode of iHeartRadio’s “If You Can Hear Me” podcast. “I often pray for healing from that while also ensuring I’m strong enough to be a good mom and support her in doing the right things.”
In July 2024, Alaina announced her father’s passing, J.J. Suddeth. Just five months later, the singer revealed she is expecting a baby girl with her husband Cam Arnold.
“My dad passed away, and two months later I found out I was pregnant; she was certainly a surprise,” Alaina told podcast host Ben Higgins. “Currently, my main prayer is to heal from that experience and to be present with her, as a good wife, mother, and businesswoman.”
The “Ladies in the ‘90s” singer continued, “Honestly, I’m probably praying least about my career right now. My heart, my healing, and being a mom take precedence for me these days.”
Over the past year, Alaina has been managing the challenging balance of pursuing her dreams while dedicating herself to motherhood.
As she toured the country with Rascal Flatts, the American Idol alum recognized what truly matters to her.
“I spend a lot of time in prayer, trying to determine what I should pursue and what I should let go of, figuring out the worth of each opportunity,” she reflected on her music career. “I will not miss out on everything. I refuse to be away all the time anymore. But I consider myself fortunate.”
Alongside a supportive family, Alaina has had the chance to travel with her mother, who assists her when things become overwhelming.
Regardless of her hectic schedule, Alaina always makes time to appreciate the blessings in her family.
“We share a strong bond,” she expressed when discussing her daughter. “The connection between a mother and her child is incredible.”
