Dansby Swanson and Mallory Share Their Journey into Parenthood

In the realm of newborn parenting, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and soccer sensation Mallory Swanson form a remarkable duo.

“Doing this together is genuinely special. We’ve always dreamed of starting a family, and now that we have one, it’s incredible,” Dansby, 32, shared exclusively with Us Weekly while collaborating with Buffalo Wild Wings and Pepsi. “It’s amazing to see a little version of Mal, you know?”

In November 2025, Dansby and Mallory’s world changed dramatically when they welcomed a daughter named Josie James Swanson.

Since their baby girl’s arrival, the couple says their bond has deepened as they tackle sleepless nights, diaper duties, baby milestones, and unpredictable schedules.

“Having a baby is such a beautiful experience; it’s literally the best thing because you’re experiencing it with your partner, witnessing all the changes,” Mallory, 28, told Us. “Sharing those moments together has been a joy.”

Despite their hectic work schedules — with Dansby playing 162 games in a season for the Chicago Cubs and Mallory on the United States Women’s National Soccer Team — they cherish their quality time together.

During Father’s Day weekend, an unexpected rainout gave Dansby more time to celebrate with Mallory and their daughter.

“For us, it’s all about being intentional with the time we have, appreciating it, and enjoying every moment,” Dansby explained to Us. “I think we handle that pretty well.”

Along their journey, the couple, who established the Purpose and Calling Foundation to support children’s well-being, lean on their faith to strengthen their family unit.

“All the blessings we enjoy are thanks to God,” Dansby expressed. “The miracle of Josie, bringing new life into our world — it’s profound. If you didn’t believe in God before, witnessing the transformation from having a child will change that. … It’s evident in our nightly prayers together, praying over Josie, and being intentional about following what we believe God has called us to do.”

Mallory added, “I know for me — and I believe for Dansby too — without our faith, it’s hard to imagine where we’d be. It’s incredibly important to us.”

“Growing up, I used to visit Buffalo Wild Wings with my soccer team all the time,” Mallory reminisced. “Dansby and I watch sports together regularly, so partnering with them felt like a fantastic opportunity.
