She reflected, “The first time it didn’t work out for me. … So when it did go well for me, having seen the other side — where you need grace to be happy for someone — I wanted to let my sisters know, ‘You don’t always have to be graceful. I see you and I’ve been you.’”

Hathaway added, “It’s incredibly difficult to want something so deeply and to question if you’re doing something wrong.”

Earlier this year, she offered insight into her home life with Shulman and their children.

“He supports me wholly. This year, in particular, has been unique,” she shared with People, referencing her busy schedule that includes films like The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mother Mary, and Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey. “We both understand that it might not happen like this again.”

Hathaway emphasized their teamwork, stating, “Having dreams is one thing; having someone who helps you achieve them is another. I absolutely wouldn’t have accomplished what I have without my husband.”
