Aubrey Plaza Speaks Out Following Pregnancy Announcement
Aubrey Plaza has opened up just days after the news of her pregnancy was revealed.
“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” Plaza, 41, shared during an episode of the “SmartLess” podcast on Monday, April 13, where she disclosed her pregnancy to hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes.
“Today was significant. I visited the doctor today, and my dog had an appointment as well,” she continued. “Both of us — my dog is currently getting a scan. I had one earlier. I’m not joking.”
She went on to explain, “She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach, and I had one on mine too, and there’s a baby in there.”
Plaza expressed her excitement about becoming a first-time mom.
“I’ve always wanted to experience that, you know? It seems so fascinating, that whole journey.”
The episode is currently available for subscribers but will be accessible to the public on Monday, April 20.
People reported on April 7 that Plaza is expecting her first child with partner Chris Abbott. Her due date is “this fall,” a source revealed. Plaza showcased her baby bump while in New York City shortly after the pregnancy announcement.
While it remains unclear when Plaza’s relationship with Abbott, 40, officially began, the two have collaborated on multiple projects. They first crossed paths while filming the 2020 movie Black Bear and later reunited for the Off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.
Plaza’s pregnancy follows the tragic passing of her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, who died by suicide at the age of 47 in January 2025. The former couple was married for nearly five years before their separation just months before his death.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza’s representative commented to Us Weekly following Baena’s passing. “We are incredibly thankful for everyone’s support. We kindly ask for privacy during this time.”
Plaza spoke openly about her grief following Baena’s death during an August 2025 appearance on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast. Poehler, 54, mentioned that fans wanted to hear from Plaza after her loss.
“You experienced such a terrible, tragic year. You lost your husband and have been navigating that while seeking support,” Poehler said during their conversation. “On behalf of all the people who feel connected to you, how are you feeling today?”
Plaza shared how she’s coping, likening her grief to the 2025 film The Gorge, featuring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.
“Overall, I’m here, functioning, and grateful to be navigating the world,” Plaza responded. “I think I’m okay, but it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”
She added, “There’s always this vast ocean of despair looming, and sometimes I want to dive right into it. Other times, I merely observe it or try to swim away.”
