Brooke Shields and Daughter Rowan Show Off Their Coordinating Party Tattoos

Brooke Shields isn’t just your typical mother; she’s considered a “cool mom” — at least according to a recent Instagram post by her daughter.

On Saturday, January 4, the actress’ daughter Rowan, 21, posted a picture of their matching tattoos on her Instagram Story, captioning it, “Mother/daughter bonding.”

The tattoos, visible on the left forearms of both women, read: “and to the party.” The post credited tattoo shop East Side Ink and tattoo artist Matt Gutierrez.

Shields, 59, also shared the image on her Story, adding the caption, “Another matching tattoo with my bug 🐞.”

In celebration of Rowan’s high school graduation in 2021, they both got matching ladybug tattoos. Shields chose to have hers on the inner part of her left wrist, while Rowan opted for hers on the back of her left ankle.

“A special graduation gift and memory with my girl 🐞. I’m so proud of you, I love you more than words can say,” Shields wrote in her Instagram post at that time.

Earlier this year, Shields opened up about the inspiration behind another set of matching tattoos — this time with her youngest daughter, Grier, 18. (Both daughters are from her marriage to Chris Henchy.)

The design, featuring two sets of feet (one big and one small) wearing the same heels, can be found on Grier’s wrist and Shields’ forearm. This symbolizes Grier stepping into her mother’s shoes. (Grier, an aspiring model, made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week in September for the Tommy Hilfiger show.)

“When she was little, she would always wear my shoes, no matter how tiny she was,” Shields revealed during an appearance on the “Stupid Things For Love” podcast in May. “She would dive into my closet and come out wearing nothing but her diaper and high heels, often accompanied by a nightgown.”

Last summer, Shields got candid on Instagram after dropping her daughters off at college and transitioning into “an empty nester.” Rowan is a senior at Wake Forest University, while Grier just embarked on her freshman year at the same school.

“At least they’re together,” an emotional Shields said while wiping away tears in a video shared via Instagram in August. “It’s tough. It’s tough for the moms. I mean, it’s just so strange. It feels weird that (Grier’s) not here anymore.”

Shields described an emotional farewell, stating they both cried and then took a big sigh. “Both of my baby birds have left the nest 🪺😫🪹,” she captioned the video.

“Oh Brooke it’s so so hard,” Debra Messing commented on her post. “It’s the end of an era, and now you can begin a fresh chapter. But first, allow yourself to cry. A lot. I laid on my couch for three weeks and couldn’t speak to anyone. Be gentle with yourself. It’s challenging because it’s challenging. All us empty nesters are sending you love.❤️.”

“True words!” Melissa Joan Hart added. “It’s so hard on the moms when our babies fly away, but if we did our job right, that’s the goal! ❤️❤️.”
