Chiefs Owner Talks About Taylor Swift’s Impact on Team Popularity
Clark Hunt, Owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, Talks About Taylor Swift’s Impact on Team Popularity
Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt praised Taylor Swift for her significant role in the team’s growth over the last two seasons.
“I believe the NFL has felt an indirect impact,” Hunt, 59, remarked during a Thursday, February 6, interview with CNBC Sport in New Orleans, just before Super Bowl LIX. “Our fan base certainly saw a significant increase last year, especially among female [fans]—particularly younger female fans.”
Hunt acknowledged that much of the surge in female fans was likely due to Swift, 35, who began dating tight end Travis Kelce during the 2023-2024 season. Swift garnered attention with her numerous appearances at Arrowhead Stadium, cheering on Kelce, 35, and the team up to Super Bowl LVIII, where the Chiefs emerged victorious over the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 25-22.
“We experienced about a 30 percent growth in our fan base, which is quite impressive for a Super Bowl-winning team,” he elaborated. “So, Taylor definitely deserves some credit for that.”
Hunt also mentioned that the Chiefs’ expansion didn’t stop there.
“We’re still attracting a lot of attention this year,” he pointed out. “We’ve had several games that have set records, and I think Taylor plays a part in that.”
The Chiefs had a remarkable season, with Swift cheering on Kelce and the team from the stands. They only lost one game during the regular season before dominating the playoffs, securing a spot in yet another Super Bowl on January 26 by defeating the Buffalo Bills—the only team to beat the Chiefs during the regular season—in the AFC Championship.
As the Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl LIX, they aim to make history. A victory against the Philadelphia Eagles—like their win in 2023—would make them the first team in NFL history to claim three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
Similar to last year, Swift is expected to attend the major event, according to Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce. After the victory, Swift and Travis celebrated with a sweet kiss on the field.
“I believe everyone will be there,” Jason shared in an interview with People published on Tuesday, February 4. “I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I know our whole family will be there. I believe, of course, Trav and Taylor, along with his family and friends. Trav always travels with a full entourage.”
