The 2025 Oscars will recognize and celebrate the best films and performances of the year, alongside individuals impacted by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Although the ceremony’s date remains unchanged, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang hinted that this year’s presentation might have a different format due to the wildfire crisis affecting many lives, including those of numerous celebrities.
“The devastation from the fires has deeply affected many within our community. The Academy strives to be a source of unity in our industry. We are committed to being there for each other during these trying times,” Kramer and Yang stated in a collective announcement on January 13, adding that the voting timeline for the Oscars has been adjusted.
“We are also taking into account the ongoing infrastructural and accommodation challenges in the area in the weeks to come. As such, we will implement changes to our event schedule, which we believe will have widespread support throughout our community,” they continued. “Our members frequently express the importance of community, and we intend to use this moment to recognize the strength and kindness within our industry. Additionally, we look forward to honoring those on the frontlines of the fire response, acknowledging those affected, and encouraging others to assist the relief efforts with the Academy.”
The awards season has commenced, and Us Weekly has circled the dates for the Oscars, Grammys, and all major 2025 ceremonies. This year’s ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET. Additionally, it will be available for streaming on platforms such as Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and Fubo TV.
Which Films are Nominated for 2025 Oscars?
Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang revealed the nominations for the 2025 Oscars on Thursday, January 23. The film Emilia Pérez led the nominations with a staggering total of 13 nods. In addition to Best Picture, it received nominations for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, and two nominations for Best Original Song.
Furthermore, Jacques Audiard received a nomination for Best Director, while stars Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón were recognized with nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress in a Leading Role, respectively.
Following closely with 10 nominations each are both The Brutalist and Wicked, which garnered nods for Best Picture and acting nominations for Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones, Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande. Who Is Hosting the 2025 Oscars?

Following the tradition of frequent host Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien will take on hosting duties for the Oscars for the first time. “The American public has asked for it, and here it is: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In related news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” he quipped in a statement from November 2024.
In their own announcement, Kramer and Yang expressed: “We are excited and honored to have the brilliant Conan O’Brien hosting the Oscars. He is the ideal choice to guide our international film celebration with his sharp wit, passion for cinema, and live television credentials. His incredible ability to engage audiences will unite viewers in what the Oscars excel at — honoring the remarkable films and filmmakers of the year.”
Will the 2025 Oscars Be Affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires?
It remains uncertain if the wildfires will directly impact the ceremony. However, the voting period for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members experienced multiple extensions due to the fires. Voting closed on January 17, which was initially the date set for the announcements of nominations.
The Oscars Nominees Luncheon, scheduled for February 10, was canceled, and the Scientific and Technical Awards were postponed from their original date of February 18.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, four members of the Academy’s 55-person board of governors lost their homes to the wildfires. The organization also reportedly contributed $750,000 to the Motion Picture & Television Fund to assist those affected by the fires.
How Are the Oscars Different From Other Awards Shows?

While various awards shows are determined by governing bodies, the Oscars are solely voted on by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Unlike the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Critics Choice Awards, which honor both films and television, the Oscars exclusively celebrate achievements in film.
Will There Be Performances of Nominated Songs?
Recently, it was announced that the Best Original Song category will no longer feature live award presentations during the broadcast. Furthermore, the nominees will not perform their songs live on air.
“The presentation for the Best Original Song category will shift away from live performances and will instead highlight the songwriters,” expressed a letter from the Academy’s CEO and president, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “We aim to celebrate the creativity of these individuals through personal insights from the teams behind the nominations. All this will help reveal the stories and intention behind this year’s nominees.”
