Did Reba and Rex Linn Rekindle Their Romance in Happy’s Place Finale?
Season 2 of Happy’s Place has wrapped up — but did Reba McEntire and Rex Linn’s characters reunite?
In the Friday, April 24 episode of the popular NBC sitcom, Emmett (Linn) ended his relationship with his girlfriend Monica (Cheri Oteri). He informed Bobbie (McEntire) that he wasn’t ready to date again, despite her intentions to express her desire to resume their relationship. Unfortunately for Bobbie, Emmett made it clear he was taking a break from dating.
Respecting Emmett’s decision, Bobbie ended the season single. This twist may surprise fans who expected to see Emmett and Bobbie together by the finale.
However, when season 2 premieres in 2025, Emmett confides in Steve (Pablo Castelblanco) that he had known about Bobbie’s secret sister, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), for years without telling her.
“It’s definitely a big twist. Everyone thinks they know what’s coming, which makes it thrilling and stressful for the audience,” Escobedo, 28, exclusively told Us Weekly about Bobbie eventually discovering Emmett’s secret. “The anticipation is real, and when this secret finally drops, it will have a significant impact.”
McEntire, 71, acknowledged that there are “consequences” that need addressing.
“It’s a crucial moment for something big and unexpected to occur in Bobbie and Emmett’s romance. You want to give the audience what they are hoping for,” she added.
While discussing this pivotal moment, Escobedo explained why this is the right time to delve into the romance, stating, “Isabella’s arrival in Bobbie’s life has opened her up. It has brought out a more vulnerable side of her because she had to confront that vulnerability. Isabella nudged her toward wanting some romance and comfort.”
Linn, 69, also offered his thoughts on the timing of these significant storylines.
“Bobbie has a huge crush on him — most women do,” he joked with Us. “It’s the perfect time because it adds more intrigue. We know he has a secret, but we don’t yet know what that is or where he intends to take it. He holds the key to that secret, and we’ll see what unfolds.”
Executive producer Kevin Abbott previously shared with Us the show’s vision for its central fictional romance.
“She’s with Rex now, and we thought, ‘If it’s ever going to work, this has to be it.’ For me, it’s a perfect match. They have wonderful chemistry,” Abbott remarked in March 2025. “I’m excited to follow this storyline and see how it develops. This was always the plan, even before we cast Rex — believe it or not. He was always intended as a potential love interest because I have stories I’m eager to tell that weren’t possible in the old Reba sitcom.”
Happy’s Place is available to stream on Peacock.
