Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and Wife Reveal the Arrival of Their Second Baby Secretly

Los Angeles Dodgers ace pitcher Shohei Ohtani has welcomed a second child!

“We are incredibly thrilled to celebrate this special day in our lives,” Ohtani, 31, and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, shared in a joint Instagram statement on Saturday, June 20. “Thank you for being born safely.”

They further expressed, “We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us on this journey.”

Ohtani and Tanaka, 29, also posted a photo of their newborn’s tiny toes peeking from a blue blanket. The couple has not disclosed the child’s gender or name.

Ohtani, who had not previously indicated they were expecting again, missed the Dodgers’ game on Friday, June 19. (The Dodgers won against the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5.)

“Shohei Ohtani is away from the team on paternity leave,” stated a post on the team’s X page earlier that day. “He is anticipated to return at some point this weekend.”

Ohtani and Tanaka have been married since 2024, welcoming their first child the following year.

“I am incredibly thankful to my loving wife for bringing our beautiful, healthy daughter into this world,” Ohtani shared on Instagram in April 2025. “To my daughter, thank you for making us nervous yet incredibly excited parents.”

He continued, “I would like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and our fans for their unwavering support and kind words. My heartfelt gratitude also goes to all the medical professionals and everyone who has been there for us leading up to this wonderful day.”

Ohtani, who has never disclosed his daughter’s name, has maintained a private family life.

“To all my friends and fans, I have an exciting announcement. Not only have I embarked on a new chapter with the Dodgers, but I’ve also started a new life with someone from my homeland of Japan who means a lot to me,” he wrote via Instagram in February 2024, confirming his marriage after joining the MLB team. “I wanted everyone to know I am now married. I look forward to what lies ahead and appreciate your support.”

Ohtani added at that time, “We are still young and there’s much we have yet to learn, but we are hopeful that you will offer us your warm support. We aim to grow together as a couple (and with our dog) alongside our fans.”

Tanaka has celebrated Ohtani’s achievements with the Dodgers, including the team’s 2025 World Series triumph.
