Exploring Ashley Olsen’s Life Beyond Hollywood: What’s She Up to Now?

Ashley Olsen gained recognition alongside her twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen through their roles in Full House, Passport to Paris, New York Minute, and more — but she has since stepped away from acting.

The sisters began their journey by sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House from 1987 to 1995. Following the end of the sitcom, Ashley and Mary-Kate evolved into household names, building their own empire of movies, TV shows, and brand partnerships.

As they matured, both Ashley and Mary-Kate decided to retreat from the limelight.

“Being in the spotlight as little kids really seems to have influenced how Mary-Kate and Ashley navigate their adult lives,” one friend mentioned to Us Weekly for a July 2024 cover story, while a former nightlife promoter remarked, “Despite being child stars, they have emerged from [everything] quite well. It could have turned out much worse.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate both distanced themselves from acting in the mid-2000s as they launched their fashion brand, The Row. Ashley’s last notable appearances were in The Simpsons, New York Minute, and Saturday Night Live. Mary-Kate, however, has made occasional returns with roles in Beastly, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s, and others.

“We were raised to be discreet individuals,” Mary-Kate shared with i-D magazine in a June 2021 profile, while Ashley added that they “rely on each other for support.”

“We definitely operate based on intuition and instinct, and it either reinforces that feeling, or if we both sense something’s off, we simply won’t proceed,” Ashley elaborated. “Our instincts are very aligned. What’s wonderful is that we have one another to depend on.”

“Ashley and Mary-Kate socialize in very elite circles,” a source revealed to Us in July 2024, referring to Ashley’s acquisition of art pieces at the Park Avenue Armory show for their London office. “Everyone they interacted with at the Armory show was affluent Europeans. [They are] well-versed in both historical and contemporary art.”

Ashley is based in New York City while Mary-Kate divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. The siblings frequently travel to Europe for work and enjoy their time in the Hamptons. Within The Row, Mary-Kate focuses on creative aspects, while Ashley primarily manages operations and finances.

“I believe they want to demonstrate their capabilities,” a former employee stated to Us regarding the motivation driving Mary-Kate and Ashley’s hard work. “Having been TV stars as children, no one initially took them seriously when they launched their collection. Today, it’s seen as the only celebrity collection that truly holds relevance.”

Meanwhile, Judy Swartz, former VP of Dualstar (the twins’ previous media company), expressed no surprise over their achievements: “They are intelligent, talented businesswomen.”

Could a Return to Acting Be Possible?

“We’ve experienced it, we’ve accomplished it, we started out that way,” Mary-Kate told Vogue in 2019 regarding the idea of her and Ashley returning to acting. “This is the path we chose: to avoid the spotlight and create something that can stand on its own.”

Ashley added, “We didn’t aim to be front and center; in fact, we preferred to keep our identities hidden. It was all about the product, to the point where we considered who could represent it without revealing ourselves.”

She further explained: “We enjoy working together and value that back-and-forth dialogue. It helps solidify our ideas to articulate them out loud.”
