HGTV’s Cancellation of Shows Like Bargain Block: What You Need to Know Amid Backlash
The shocking cancellations at HGTV just keep coming — what’s behind these drastic cuts, and could more be on the way?
After establishing itself as the go-to channel for home improvement and real estate shows, HGTV has garnered a dedicated fan base that has supported its rich array of programming, including hits like The Flip Off, Scariest House in America, My Lottery Dream Home, and more.
However, viewers were taken aback in the summer of 2025 when several hosts shared that their shows would not be returning. From Battle on the Beach to Farmhouse Fixer, a number of series faced cancellation, leaving the door open for even more cuts.
While the network has yet to explain this contentious decision, various HGTV stars have spoken out about the end of their shows. As fans await clarity on the future lineup, keep scrolling for an overview of the evolving situation:
The Key Players
In June 2025, HGTV fans were stunned by the announcement that Bargain Block would not return. This news was soon followed by updates regarding other shows such as Battle on the Beach, Farmhouse Fixer, Married to Real Estate, and Izzy Does It, all of which were also not renewed.
The Gist
Bargain Block cohost Keith Bynum ignited the cancellation discussion by stating that his show was abruptly coming to an end. He posted on Instagram in June 2025, “HGTV decided in February, after we prepared for season 5, that they weren’t going to proceed.”
In the same month, Married to Real Estate’s Egypt Sherrod and her husband, Mike Jackson, addressed the fate of their show.
“Mike and I just got back to the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, only to be met with the surprising news: HGTV has chosen not to continue with Married to Real Estate,” the couple shared in a joint statement. “While the events leading up to this are disheartening, we are immensely grateful. Grateful for four amazing seasons. Grateful for our wonderful crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses keep thriving. Most importantly, grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and to each other).”
They went on to say, “There’s more to share, and we will soon. But for now, know this: not all setbacks are what they seem. Some blessings arrive in disguise. We’ve been here before and will keep counting those blessings—and moving forward. Stay tuned.”
Farmhouse Fixer host Jonathan Knight also shared disappointing news regarding his show.
“Many of you have been asking about the future of Farmhouse Fixer. I regret to inform you that HGTV has decided not to proceed with another season,” Knight mentioned in an Instagram post in June 2025. “While I’m still processing the reasons behind their decision, Kristina and I are incredibly grateful for all your support over the past three seasons. Creating television has been an extraordinary experience for us, and we look forward to sharing what’s next.”
What People Are Saying
Izzy Battres addressed the end of Izzy Does It after just one season in June 2025.
“That’s a wrap on the show — no season 2 in the works, but we are truly grateful for all of you!” he stated in response to an Instagram fan. “While we won’t be back for a second season, your support has meant everything!”
Battres expressed: “No season 2, but we’re so thankful for all the love you’ve shown us!”
In July, Alison Victoria discussed disappointing news regarding her property renovation series with Ty Pennington and Taniya Naya as well.
“I hosted a show called Battle on the Beach. I loved that show. It was such fun and laughter. Then suddenly, I watched an episode and thought, ‘Where did all the [great content] go?’ I understand it’s a lot to fit into 42 minutes, but where is it? What happened to the excellent editing?” she shared on her “Pap Smear” podcast. “You can lose a show like that. I truly believe that. Unfortunately, Battle on the Beach wasn’t picked up again, which is disappointing because it felt like an adult spring break.”
Why It’s a Big Deal
The rapid-fire cancellations shocked HGTV fans, who are now questioning the status of the channel’s other programming. HGTV has not yet addressed any of the five cancellations or indicated whether more are to follow.
What’s Next
Despite the cancellations, HGTV has renewed Renovation Resort Showdown, Love It or List It, My Lottery Dream House, Scariest House in America, and Sin City Rehab. Series such as 100 Day Dream Home, Home Town, Fixer to Fabulous, and Help! I Wrecked My House have either returned or are expected to return for additional episodes, along with Celebrity IOU and Chasing the West.
