How Did ‘The Flip Off’ Reveal Christina Haack and Josh Hall’s Breakup?
In the months leading up to the premiere of “The Flip Off,” excitement surged as fans speculated about the relationship dynamics between ex-spouses and former co-stars, Christina Haack and Josh Hall — particularly whether their drama would be featured on camera.
Haack and Hall originally teamed up on “The Flip Off,” a fresh home-flipping competition airing on HGTV. Their competitors included Haack’s first ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, along with his wife, Heather El Moussa.
However, in July 2024, just three months after the show’s announcement, Hall filed for divorce from Haack, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Despite this shakeup, it became clear that the show would continue as Haack pressed on in the competition without Hall.
In a recent interview with TODAY.com, Haack mentioned that her breakup didn’t deter her from participating in the show.
“It was definitely not a thought,” she stated. “(Tarek, Heather, and I) developed the concept; it was always part of the plan.”
A preview clip shared on December 12 confirmed that Haack and Hall’s breakup was indeed part of the storyline. In this clip, a tearful Haack reveals to Tarek El Moussa that she and Hall have “officially split.”
Another teaser released by HGTV on January 2 showcased a tense moment between Haack and Hall leading up to their separation.
After the show’s premiere on January 29, the question arose: how would “The Flip Off” handle Haack and Hall’s breakup? Continue reading for insights into what transpired, along with more information about the house-flipping series featuring Haack, Tarek El Moussa, and Heather El Moussa.
What is ‘The Flip Off’ about?
Haack and Tarek El Moussa, who were married from 2009 to 2018, gained fame on HGTV with their joint series “Flip or Flop,” which aired for 10 successful seasons.
The ex-couple concluded “Flip or Flop” in 2022, each taking on their own HGTV shows. They later came together for “The Flip Off,” which pits them against each other to determine “which ex can find, buy, renovate and flip a house for the greatest financial return, with the winner claiming ultimate bragging rights and a first-class vacation funded by the loser,” as stated in a press release.
Although Hall initially served as Haack’s partner in the renovations on the series, after their separation, the “Christina on the Coast” star recruits a few friends to outperform Tarek El Moussa in an intense competition to see who can execute a better house flip. Additionally, Haack’s children, Taylor and Brayden, are featured in the show.
“Tarek, Heather, and I have navigated a lot together, and our competitive spirits are high,” Haack shared in the release. “Tarek claims to be the ‘best flipper in the world,’ but honestly, let’s be real. I’m eager to show them how it’s done.”
How does ‘The Flip Off’ address Christina Haack and Josh Hall’s breakup?
In the opening episode of “The Flip Off,” tension escalates between Haack and Hall. One particular scene, teased in a previous clip, captures them in a car en route to meet their contractor, where a quarrel ensues.
“Remember, you’re a Hall now,” Hall reminds Haack, who took his last name after their wedding. “Don’t get confused about your last name in this competition.”
He then expresses frustration, calling her “rude” for disregarding his input and adds, “I wish you’d just shut up already.”
In a personal commentary, Haack responds to his actions by stating “he’s been a bit moody recently” due to her past with Tarek El Moussa and the pressures of the competition.
Later, Haack and Hall clash over the decision to expand their home’s square footage.
“Josh hates being wrong, so I try to tread lightly, but in the end, I’m thinking like a house flipper, not a designer with an endless budget,” Haack explains in another interview. “I’m here to win, and I believe he needs to acknowledge my expertise.”
Jumping ahead to another scene, previously shown in a sneak peek, Haack invites Tarek El Moussa to discuss something in person.
“I know that look, what’s going on?” he asks as he enters her home, noticing her arms crossed.
“Josh and I officially split up,” she confides after a brief pause.
“We had a blowup over the smallest thing, truly, nothing. He got in my face and flipped me off,” she explains, revealing that “the issues between us have been brewing for awhile.”
Haack mentions that her children, with Tarek El Moussa, urged her to end things with Hall because he was “not nice” to her.
“You’re a remarkable mother, daughter, and person,” he reassures her.
Tarek El Moussa proceeds to ask Haack if she still wants to go through with the house flipping competition.
“What do you think? Yes, I’m still in, and I plan to do it even better. Now I have more time,” she replies, mentioning that she has a new team in place for support.
The following scene introduces this new team, featuring Michael Lange, Haack’s contractor, and Kylie Wing, her design associate.
“Ultimately, I believe the winning team is right here now, and to be honest, I’m amidst a tornado,” she told Lange and Wing. “I never expected to face this during such a crucial phase, and it feels like I have a lot to prove.”
