Jennifer Garner Shares Throwback Photo of Ben Affleck and Their Kids

Jennifer Garner honored former partner Ben Affleck with a heartfelt Father’s Day message.

The 13 Going on 30 star, age 54, shared nostalgic photos of her late father, William John “Bill” Garner, alongside Affleck, 53, via Instagram on Sunday, June 21. One cherished throwback featured a younger Affleck standing in a dirt field, dressed casually in a striped T-shirt and khaki shorts, with their infant daughter Seraphina, now 17, in a baby carrier on his chest, while their oldest, Violet, now 20, held his hand.

Another nostalgic image showcased the Good Will Hunting actor donning a Batman costume while playfully lifting their son, Samuel, who is now 14, onto his shoulders.

“My sisters and I adored spoiling our dad; he always had fresh baked cookies or a bowl of ice cream,” Garner expressed in her caption. “Seeing my kids pamper their dad brings me joy. Loving and being loved by a great dad is truly a gift.”

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck transitioned from being Hollywood’s “It” couple to handling a tumultuous marriage under public scrutiny. They started dating in 2004 and married the following year. The couple welcomed three children during their relationship: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. Despite the challenges in their marriage, the family shared many beautiful moments together.

Garner wrapped up her message with, “Happy Father’s Day to all dads and to the kids of dads as well. ♥️.”

Garner and Affleck originally met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2000, while she was married to Scott Foley and Affleck was dating Gwyneth Paltrow. However, they reconnected in 2002 during the filming of Daredevil and publicly became a couple in 2004 after Garner’s divorce. They married in 2005 while Garner was pregnant with Violet, who was born shortly after, followed by their other children in 2009 and 2012.

After ten years of marriage, they announced their separation in 2015, finalizing their divorce three years later. Despite their split, they have maintained a strong co-parenting relationship and friendship.

Garner recently shared insights about her co-parenting experience with Affleck during a February interview with Bustle.

Jennifer Garner and her ex-husband Ben Affleck were seen celebrating their son Samuel’s 14th birthday together. Photos obtained by Page Six showed them walking at Combat Paintball Park in Castaic, California, on Saturday, February 28, with supplies in hand. Garner opted for jeans and a white tank top for the casual outing.

“I think I embody a bit of both roles,” the Alias actress said regarding raising her children with attentiveness and care. “I believe their dad does the same. Especially when kids grow up in two different households, I serve as both mom and dad, and he does too. It’s inevitable, right? Since you lack the complete balance of both parents under the same roof.”

Garner also reflected on her breakup with Affleck recently.

“You have to be discerning about what you can and can’t bear, and I struggled with what was public,” she revealed to Marie Claire UK in January. “The hardest part was the reality of breaking up a family and the loss of a true partnership and friendship.”

After her divorce from Affleck, Garner began dating businessman John Miller in 2018. Affleck, on the other hand, rekindled his romance with ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez in 2021, marrying her in July 2022, although they later separated again in April 2024, with their divorce finalizing in January 2025.
