Kristin Davis Reveals Embarrassing SATC Moment from ‘The Chicken Dance’
Kristin Davis reminisces about an awkward experience while filming Sex and the City.
In a recent episode of her podcast, “Are You a Charlotte?” aired on July 28, the 60-year-old actress reflects on the second season’s seventh episode, titled “The Chicken Dance.”
Davis shares that during a wedding dance scene, the episode’s director, Victoria Hochberg, spent much of the time “yelling” at her co-star to “grab her ass.”
In this episode, Davis’ character, Charlotte York, quickly develops a relationship with Martin, a man she meets at a wedding. At one point, he invites Charlotte to meet his parents, to which she enthusiastically agrees.
She finds herself dancing with his father, portrayed by her scene partner.
“The last scene we filmed for this wedding sequence was me dancing with the dad,” Davis recalled.
“Firstly, everyone was in a state of delirium,” she elaborated. “From my perspective back then, I had to dance with an older man who was going to feel my butt, which was extremely mortifying. Secondly, everyone was utterly exhausted.”
This was the “final thing” that needed to be filmed, she remarked. “As I looked out towards the camera, all I could see were crew members asleep along the bottom of the half wall surrounding the dance floor. The camera couldn’t capture them, but there they were, passed out. I thought to myself, ‘God bless them, God bless them.’”
Everyone else was “delirious” from the extended shooting, Davis continued. Moreover, Hochberg “was just yelling at this guy,” she added. “From across the room, it felt like she might have had a bullhorn. She shouted, ‘Harder, bigger, grab her ass, grab her ass,’ and I just thought, ‘The humiliation factor is off the charts,’ especially with the close-up of him grabbing my butt.”

As a result, Davis expressed that she felt “mad” upon completing the scene. “If you observe my interaction with the guy who played Martin, you’ll notice my true mad face… people who’ve watched the show or films know it well. I was upset that I had to do it. It’s mortifying having a man grab my butt.”
The actress concluded, “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, we’re making something totally wild, staying up all night for 24 hours, trying to pull off this craziness.’”
