NFL Star Xavier Legette Shares Wild Tale of His Passion for Eating Raccoons
NFL athlete Xavier Legette has some unexpected culinary preferences.
The 23-year-old rookie for the Carolina Panthers appeared on the December 10 episode of the “St. Brown Podcast”, where he disclosed some surprising details about his food choices.
When podcast hosts Amon-Ra, 25, and Equanimeous St. Brown, 28, inquired about his “hottest food take” regarding “something unusual” he enjoys, Legette dropped a bombshell regarding his dining preferences.
“I eat raccoon,” Legette revealed to the NFL players.
The St. Brown brothers expressed their disbelief and prompted him for clarification.
“As in the raccoon you see rummaging through garbage,” Legette elaborated. “I hunt it. I kill it. I skin them, cook them, and eat them. All of that.”
He mentioned that he last had raccoon for Thanksgiving and shared his thoughts on its flavor.
“People often say things taste like chicken, but raccoon has its own unique flavor,” Legette stated.
The rookie went on to mention that raccoon isn’t his only unconventional preference; he also enjoys squirrel and rabbit as part of his home-cooked meals.
This isn’t the first time Legette has openly expressed his affection for raccoon meat.
In November, he took to social media to share his family’s plans for their Thanksgiving feast.
While turkey is a traditional favorite for many Americans, Legette mentioned that raccoon was on the menu for him.
“Man, what I’m mostly excited to eat today is that raccoon,” he shared in an Instagram story on Thanksgiving.
“My cousin called me up last night, told me they caught the raccoon two days prior. They skinned it and cleaned it up. Yeah, we’re about to dive into that today.”
This isn’t the first instance of the football rookie making headlines with his food preferences.
After a Panthers training session in Munich, Germany, in November, Legette sampled some authentic German sausages in a humorous video for RTL Sport.
“Do I have to cook it?” he hilariously questioned about the sausages before taking a bite.
Legette also expressed his opinions on chicken wings as he sampled the German fare.
In the video, he acknowledged that he was accustomed to “a different type of barbecue sauce.”
“I had some chicken wings earlier,” he remarked. “They had a different taste to them.”
