Randy Moss Reveals Cancer Diagnosis and Surgical Procedure to Remove Tumor
Randy Moss has publicly announced his cancer diagnosis, following previous denials from his son about the situation.
In a heartfelt Instagram Live session on December 13, Moss, 47, shared, “I’ve been dealing with some internal issues that I’ve mentioned over the past couple of weeks, and I want you all to know that I am a cancer survivor.”
He disclosed that he underwent a procedure on Thanksgiving to place a stent in his liver due to issues with waste excretion.
“They discovered cancer in the bile duct located between my pancreas and liver,” Moss elaborated. “It was situated just outside the bile duct.”
The former NFL star underwent a complex “six-hour surgery” that involved the Whipple procedure, which entails the removal of the pancreatic head, portions of the small intestine, the gallbladder, and the bile duct, as defined by the Mayo Clinic. He spent six days in the hospital and was recently released.
Currently on a leave of absence from his role at ESPN, Moss plans to pursue chemotherapy and radiation but feels “good” at this time. He indicated he would not entertain follow-up questions about his health but wanted to connect with fans as he recuperates. Moss aims for a quick recovery to return to his broadcasting duties soon.
“I will return to the set as soon as I’m well,” Moss stated. “I look forward to being back on television with my crew.”
He also expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming support he received during this health challenge, noting, “All the prayers and well wishes have been felt by my family and me.”
Moss is also committed to raising awareness about cancer and urging everyone to undergo regular screenings while fundraising for cancer research through his new Team Moss merchandise.
Randy Moss’s announcement about his cancer diagnosis followed a vehement denial from his son, Thaddeus, regarding ongoing rumors. This situation was ignited when former NFL player Larry Fitzgerald‘s father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., tweeted on December 10 that Moss was battling liver cancer and extended his well wishes.
“Let’s showcase the power of prayer and support Moss through this 🙏🙏🙏,” wrote Larry Sr. “I love you, Randy.”
In response, Thaddeus issued a now-deleted statement expressing, “This is appalling. It’s inappropriate to publicize private matters for attention. I don’t think my father even speaks to you, so verify your sources.”
