What’s the Meaning Behind Love Island’s “French Fries”? A Breakdown of the Sex Code Word
Love Island USA has introduced a new euphemism with the term “French fries” to refer to a sexual act — but what does it actually mean?
“I was definitely getting some French fries. Feeling good,” she excitedly shared. “We might have gone a little overboard, but I feel a strong connection with Corbin. We probably got a bit carried away.”
Based on the footage, “French fries” seems to indicate manual sexual activities like a hand job. However, some viewers have suggested that the reference to the fried side could also imply finger food, which points to another sexual activity.
Love Island USA first debuted in the U.K. in 2002 before expanding globally with various spinoffs, including Love Island USA on Peacock. The reality show features a fresh group of singles each season who must couple up to remain in the luxurious villa.
The contestants, called Islanders, live in seclusion within the villa while being monitored through constant video surveillance. Pairing up is essential to remain on the show and compete for the $100,000 grand prize.
While forming a deeper connection is not surprising, season 7 of Love Island USA appeared to set a record for the number of times Islanders were caught in intimate scenarios — only to be surpassed by season 8.
From Hannah Fields and Pepe Garcia to Huda Mustafa and Jeremiah Brown, the reality stars discovered ways to avoid explicitly discussing their sexual encounters for the audience.
“We created a code name for intimacy,” Hannah shared exclusively with Us Weekly in June 2025. “We would ask, ‘How was your journey? What was that journey like?’ Huda [was the one who started it] by saying something like, ‘Oh, I had a journey. My journey went all the way.’”
Season 8 amplified the levels of intimacy occurring within the villa, with numerous couples taking their connections to the next level while sharing a bedroom. The stakes have only increased with the introduction of Casa Amor midway through Sunday’s episode.
New episodes of Love Island USA drop six days a week — excluding Wednesdays — on Peacock.
