Jason Oppenheim Hints at Potential Cast Overhaul for Selling Sunset

With tensions and controversies reaching new heights on Selling Sunset, could we see a cast shakeup in season 10?

Jason Oppenheim shared his thoughts on this during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly at the T-Mobile exclusive reveal at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, stating, “This is a bigger decision involving Netflix and production, to be honest.”

Oppenheim, 48, mentioned that “every option is still up for discussion” before filming starts. He also addressed the exit of Chrishell Stause, who has been a part of the hit Netflix series since its debut in 2019.

“She’s an adult. She can make her own choices about what’s best for her. I believe every cast member should make their own [decisions],” he expressed. “Currently, [she is still with the Oppenheim Group]. That’s another choice she will make.”

Selling Sunset revolves around not just the drama, but the real estate too — but which agents are still licensed to sell homes? Oppenheim continued: “If she decides to leave, that certainly wouldn’t come from me. I put it in everyone’s hands to navigate this. And, of course, there’s Netflix and production, who also have input. So I try my best to avoid being the decision-maker, if that makes sense.”

Since its inception, the reality series has captivated audiences, allowing them to witness breakups, conflicts, and ongoing rivalries.

“I don’t like the current dynamics. I want to steer it back to real estate,” Oppenheim told Us. “We can create a truly amazing show without crossing lines. Some of our best seasons thrived without that drama.”

Oppenheim hopes to return the show to its roots.

“I envision a fun, escapist show for viewers. Not one that alienates or divides. That’s absurd. One of the most appealing aspects of Selling Sunset is that it should be a delightful experience to enjoy with your partner. We aim to avoid leaving audiences feeling contentious after an episode.”

Although Netflix has not yet confirmed a renewal for Selling Sunset, Oppenheim remains optimistic for a more harmonious season 10. He also addressed worries about potential cast exits, since Amanza Smith and Chelsea Lazkani currently lack active real estate licenses, per the California Department of Real Estate.

“Practically, agents need to renew their licenses annually. Sometimes they forget and merely receive a notice,” he clarified. “All that’s required is to pay a fine. I don’t think that’s particularly significant. It’s a common issue that many face.”

As Oppenheim awaits updates on Selling Sunset, he attended the T-Mobile exclusive unveiling, where executives shared major news and discussed how the Un-carrier aims to address customer challenges, including innovations coming to LVGP this year.
