Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles captured Us with their portrayal of brothers in Supernatural, and they have remained active in the entertainment industry since the show’s conclusion.

Padalecki and Ackles took on the roles of the monster-hunting siblings from 2005 to 2020. Having featured in over 300 episodes, Padalecki shared with Us Weekly that he never truly felt like he said “goodbye” to his character.

“We really became a family,” he reflected on their journey. “After 15 years, we’ve trimmed the excess. We didn’t let anyone go, but if someone wasn’t happy, they moved on. So, the ones who stayed wanted to be there.”

Ackles echoed these sentiments, motivating him to broaden the Supernatural universe. (The Winchesters aired from 2022 to 2023, focusing on the parents of Dean (Ackles) and Sam (Padalecki) during the 1970s.)

“It’s been a long journey,” Ackles playfully mentioned during a TV Critics’ Association press tour panel in the same year. “I don’t think this journey will ever truly end. It’s just going to take a pause for a bit. I can’t say how long that will be.”

‘Walker’ Universe

Padalecki stayed with The CW after Supernatural wrapped, taking on the lead role in the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot from 2020 to 2024, also serving as executive producer. Following the inspiration of Walker, which led to the Walker: Independence prequel, Padalecki made an unnamed cameo in one episode.

Ackles also joined Walker as a director and made a cameo as Miles Vyas.

‘Fire Country’ Franchise

In its third season, CBS’ popular series Fire Country brought Padalecki in as Camden Casey for a three-episode arc designed to set up a potential spinoff. The planned Fire Country: Surfside would star Padalecki as a California firefighter grappling with the ramifications of his brother’s death on the job.

‘The Boys’

Ackles’ portrayal of Soldier Boy in The Boys was a surprising contrast for those who adored him as Dean in Supernatural. This shift, however, allowed him to land his own prequel series titled Vought Rising, as well as a guest appearance in the Gen V spinoff.

Padalecki also joined the fun, with a role yet to be announced in the fifth and final season. This opportunity reconnected Padalecki with Ackles and creator Eric Kripke, who played significant roles in Supernatural before contributing to The Boys.

After collaborating with showrunner Anna Fricke on Walker, Padalecki rejoined her for an untitled series for CBS about a determined country doctor who practices a unique brand of improvisational medicine. This project is currently in development under Padalecki’s first-look deal.
