Scarlett Johansson Discusses Jurassic World Rebirth and Her Daughter Rose
Scarlett Johansson assures fans that Jurassic World: Rebirth is the most fear-inducing installment of the series — yet she believes her 10-year-old daughter, Rose, is ready to watch it.
“I’ve spoken to several other Jurassic enthusiasts who claim this is the scariest entry, but I would allow my daughter to see it,” Johansson, 40, stated in an interview with E! News during the film’s NYC premiere on June 23.
She continued, “It’s still family-friendly. You just might want to peek at it through your fingers.”
Johansson shares her daughter with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, whom she was married to from 2014 to 2017. She wed Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost in October 2020, and they welcomed their son, Cosmo, in August 2021.
“When I watched the first Jurassic Park movie, I was 10 years old in the theater. The jump scares, the laughs, and definitely the terrors left a lasting impression on me,” Johansson mentioned at the NYC premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth. “That’s what makes Jurassic so special. It’s exhilarating both visually and emotionally.”
In the movie, she takes on the role of covert operative Zora Bennett, who faces a perilous, top-secret mission alongside fellow adventurers portrayed by Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey (the latter of whom she kissed on the red carpet on Monday).
Last week, Johansson attended the film’s London premiere and shared a rare insight about her son, now 3 years old. When asked about her favorite Chappell Roan song, she responded, “I mean, my son’s favorite Chappell song is H-O-T T-O G-O, ‘HOT TO GO!,’ and while it may not be my top pick, his love for it has made it mine as well.”
Despite her public profile, Johansson aims to keep her kids out of the spotlight.
“My family is incredibly important to me, along with their privacy,” Johansson expressed in a March interview with InStyle. “The anonymity of my kids is very valuable to me. Recently, my daughter mentioned wanting to make videos for The Outset.”
“She asked, ‘Why can’t I?’ and I had to explain, ‘Well, aside from the fact that you’re 10…’” she continued.
Recently, Johansson stated she would discourage Rose from joining social media or getting a phone.
“I have a little guy who’s 3, so he’s not on any devices. He’s into Legos,” she shared last November. “My daughter’s 10 now, and so there’s increased pressure, especially when she’s with older friends.”
Johansson mentioned that it’s “challenging” for her to accept the idea of giving her daughter a phone.
“I’m not sure; I find social media to be tough for young people,” she reflected. “It’s hard for me to grasp. It feels like technology is advancing much quicker than our human understanding can keep up.”
